An engaging story with a good mystery and likable characters. It's one of the falling in love but the heroine didn't tell the hero the truth so everything falls apart even though they're both really in love with each other, which has always bugged me a little. This one makes more sense than most. My big complaint is that after suffering injuries from an explosion that burned her legs, near the end of the book, the heroine is able to traipse about the woods _and_ ride a horse. The injury also doesn't preclude her from other activities, so it didn't seem to make sense (one reason for her not being injured as badly as she could have been is because she was wearing boots) -- she was in an explosion

Sweet Enemy was one of my favourite historical romance novels that I have read in some time and an excellent start to the Veiled Seduction trilogy. This trilogy has me hoping to see much more from Heather Snow.

This is a well written novel with interesting characters and a well written love story. This is a novel tat is well researched and includes interesting pieces of history, science and politics. For readers of historical romance who like their historical romances to have a real and believable feel to them.

It was a welcome change of pace to have Geoffrey so focused on politics and for him to be so civic-minded, something you don't see much in romance heroes. It was also a welcome change of pace for Liliana to be so focused on science, something that is very rare in a historical romance heroine. Even with all of this going on, the plot regarding the murder of Liliana's father fir right in and felt welcome.

This is a book I would re-read.

I plucked this books randomly off a shelf of a used book store and it was such a good find. I fell hard for this couple and the situations they were put into. You are immediately dropped into the action and I appreciated that.

I liked Lilianna's independence and her intelligence. I thought the chemistry part was an interesting twist to it; it was fascinating to see it in that time period. Basically I just fell in love with the couple and then even more so, I was anxious to see how the mystery unfolded. I really wanted it to be the mother because I love a good villainess but I'm okay with how it ended.

Overall, I am happy I found this book and hope I can find a way to get the rest of the series.

Conclusion: Keep

This was fabulous! A wonderful debut novel, an interesting cast of characters, a great story-line, fabulous tension, a happy ending - all in all - a great read!

Liliana Claremont is a chemist, and has shunned the normal strictures that society places upon women to follow her passions and her dreams. When that leads to her discovering that her father was murdered, she follows the clues to the Stratford estate where she meets Geoffrey Wentworth, the Earl of Stratford.

Geoffrey is a returning war hero, who has taken up the reins of his family's estate after the death of his brother. Unlike many other novels that feature former soldiers and war heroes, Sweet Enemy doesn't focus on that aspect of Geoffrey's past, rather, it is just a part of him, and not a major facet.

The sexual tension between our two intrepid heroes is sizzling and the writing fabulous (nary a turgid nipple in sight!).

The discovery of both Geoffrey and Liliana and their love for each other is slow, lovely and surprises both of them. The chemistry between the two leads is palpable and oh-so-sweet.

Heather Snow has just landed herself on my automatic 'must buy' pile! A fabulous book!

I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It was really sweet but there were enough serious elements to keep it from being painfully so. Liliana was a delightfully capable heroine and goes after what she's looking for, even when the different things she wants start conflicting. My only issue with her was how guilty she felt about how she went about certain things that I did not think were as bad as she made them out to be. It wasn't too bad, there were just moments where I wanted to be all "you don't need to feel guilty about THAT! It was completely justifiable at the time, and changing circumstances should be taken into account!!" Geoffrey was cool too, though kind of boring at times. He didn't really have too much of a personality, really, outside of wanting to save the world. Admirable, but just not all that exciting to me. Their relationship, however, was great. It was built up nicely and the timing worked with their characters.
