Good for a relaxing, lighthearted romance. Low spice.

I bought this on the Chirp $1 audiobook deal day based on the title alone. I mean come on. A cowboy. In a kilt. Clearly I needed to know.

Robbed of his rightful inheritance of his family's ranch in Texas, Raleigh flies to Vegas to let off some steam and ensure he doesn't do anything dumb at home. When there, he ends up in a conversation with a Scottish stranger. She invites him to a private poker game where he ends up winning a Scottish estate and with it, a barony and a forced marriage. The old family pact tied to the land means he will have to marry Kyla, who's currently in a relationship. Both are willing to do what they need to in order to follow the terms, but it will be a marriage of convenience only. Except, do marriages of convenience ever actually stay that way?!

Read if you like:
✅ Cowboy romance
✅ Scottish settings and accents
✅ Marriage of convenience

This was fun and cute. I didn't get the entire loophole bit in the pact, but it was still an entertaining read. Much more than I thought I'd get out of this.

This book was perfect timing for me to read after the holidays. I needed something low stress, low angst, and enjoyable.

The way Raleigh and Kyla's story started out, I actually was expecting a lot more drama. I had a lot of admiration for the way Raleigh took a really bad situation and made it something special. He seemed to have a knack for it, including his relationship with Kyla. I had no ideas how she waa going to resist him.

I wasn't sure if I was going to like Kyla in the beginning, but once she and Raleigh put their plan into motion, Kyla became much less brittle.

I liked the small town feel of this book. The family relationships, the friendship, the way Raleigh integrated into the town all left a very heartwarming feeling. I loved that Zeke and Charlotte were there for him too.

I liked the way Raleigh and Kyla's relationship developed, leading them to their HEA. I am looking forward to Malcolm and Charlotte's story. I am wondering if Zeke and Pippa will get a story, or even Connor and Sophie. The real question is what happened or is going to happen with Afton?

I voluntarily read and reviewed this Advanced Reader Copy received via Booksprout.

This is the first full novel in this new series set in Scotland (rather than the author’s usual deep South setting). I was unsure about the new setting, only because I love the richness of her stories based in the South, and was concerned it wouldn’t be replicated. I was very happily wrong, the storytelling is just as spellbinding and the description of the locale just as vivid.

This book is a set after the prequel which I would highly recommend reading first, although you get caught up quickly on the backstory.

This book is fun, feisty and captivating. It is full of gripping storylines, rich and at times quirky characters and you immediately feel part of the story and invested in the characters. It's a fairly quick read because once you start, you can’t put it down.

I can’t wait for more of this series. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

Enjoyable, very slow burn story with a lovely MMC who is a real caretaker in action. Nothing much happens, there's very little angst, the FMC is an incredibly decent and nice human too, as are all the family and friends around them. All very gentle and adorable - especially Mable the rescue Highland coo calf.

Some inexcusable use of Americanisms supposedly by Scottish characters which really jolted me out of the story eg 'close to the vest' would be 'close to the chest' in the UK, we don't have half and half or milk in gallons etc. Plus the obsession with referring to the kettle as 'electric' - which the vast vast majority are anyway in the UK showed a lack of understanding of the culture being written about. Potentially acceptable if it was the American character making these observations of course, but in these instances it was supposed to be the Scottish FMC who definitely wouldn't have these misunderstandings. It's a real bugbear as it's so simple to check/fix but, for me at least, destroys the narrative flow.

Overall, a warm hug of a book for days when you want to feel there are good people in the world.

Loved this fake marriage tale

A cowboy with a kilt, yum please. Especially if he is as noble and kindhearted as Raleigh. Kyla was a sweetheart too, but it took a while for her to open her eyes. Would make an excellent beach read.
