This is the second book in the series. I don't know how many books are planned, but iI'm there for them all. This romance focuses on Calladia and Astaroth. It picks up shortly after the first book. Astaroth is now mortal and has amnesia. After being kicked out of the bar that they were celebrating in, Calladia is itching for a fight. And she gets one, which causes her to unintentionally save Astaroth- who without his memories isn't half bad. They are sent on a quest to restore his memories. I really like Calladia. She is rough around the edges but she has heart. Eveything that everyone has told her is a bad thing are the exact traits that Astaroth loves about her. They compliment each other well . This is funny with the bonus of an adventurous quest. And then plot - restoring Astaroth back to the high council and stopping Moloch and his hybrid hating cronies is actually more substantial then I expected it to be. This story had the potential of spiraling into overdramatics, but that only came from Calladia's mom. This was just a good quality romantic comedy. I'm tempted to say that the end wrapped tihings up a little too quickly, leaving some things left hanging. But, if the next story picks up where this left off -I'm okay with that.

This is listed as a YA thriller, but I would classify it as YA Sci-fi, horror. It could be called Jordan Peele's take on Freaky Friday.
After receiving a barbell tattoo, Megan and her new best friend, LC, go to a party at Nathan's house. Nathan is Megan's crush, but LC's mood shifts during the car ride over so Megan doesn't get to enjoy the night like she hoped to. Instead, she takes what she things is Molly and wakes up in a strange body. It's not until she makes it home that she understands that she and LC has swapped bodies. It isn't until later that Megan realizes that LC did this on purpose. While I liked this overall. I still had some issues with it. The main one being that Megan is too damn native and trusting. I get the overwhelming situation and maybe it's simply that I have trust issues. But she ignores her instincts and the basic proof that neither LC or the FBI agent can be trusted. I do like that when backed against a wall they had to rely on themselves, outside wasn't coming. The characters had to depend on their strength and figure things out on their own. While Megan is hella native, she also has spunk. The ending was a bit preachy (but the points about black girl trauma -valid). If you are looking for a heavy science based explanation you will be disappointed. But the explanation is there and maybe a bit more plausible then what is comfortable.

This is an upper elementary/lower middle grade horror story that I received for review. The fact that zombies were involved was the selling point for me. But then I found out that it was one of those "read the book, play the game" deals and I was even more intrigued. This was a fresh take on the zombie classic. Not only are people used to zombies and living with them, the seasons are dictated by the presence of zombies or lack thereof. Three kids stand out as the main characters. Joules is determined to find her father who is missing presumed dead from a previous zombie season. Oliver has been mapping out possible escape routes for the entire town. Regina has been helping her mom come up with other ore beneficial ways to deal with the zombies. Everything changes when they encounter a zombie that doesn't behave as a zombie should. Nix is a different type of zombie-he is neither living nor undead. He is also able able to control hordes of zombies and strategize. But in the end -even Nix -is not the deadliest thing out there. Zombies are one of my favorite monsters and anything does a fresh take deserves a chance. And this was done very well. kids who are budding horror fans will enjoy this, as well as those who want to explore stories further through games.

This is an e-ARC that I have had for a long time. And it's one that I ended up enjoying a lot more than I anticipated. This is a YA mystery/thriller about a teen -Lia Finch- who is after the person who controls the death mob that killed her father. I have to point out that the actual plot/premise of the book is not believable. Death mobs are compromised of teenagers and no one knows who's behind them or who is involved? This is too big and requires too many people to be involved to make this work anonymously. Especially in Chicago. There are things that I wish were explored a lot more or exposed - the mob mentality, the racism of the mayor. And there are things that I wish were left out- the romance between Lia and Ryan, that was unnecessary. It didn't come out of left field exactly, but it was a bit of a tangent. But even with all of that, there was something about the story, about Lia and her drive to find the truth that kept me interested in the story.

To be completely honest, I wanted to enjoy this a lot more than I actually did. My mood changing is partially to blame, but so is the book. The most stand out thing about this book is that it was based on Filipino mythology. There are some key things that I likes about Lulu- mainly that she was the most realistic "I've suddenly got powers and now I have to save the world" character I've read for a while. She's not enthusiastic about having powers or being the chosen one. Ad while she has been training for this for most of her life, she doesn't automatically know what to do or how to use weapons. It's not all handed to her. But other than this, this was your pretty standard middle grade quest fantasy, with a bit of friends/found family, magic and big evil out to do the whole world bad. You do get to learn about the Filipino pantheon of gods.
