This is a middle grade fantasy that is similar to Percy Jackson, except the characters are descendants of the monsters in Greek myths. But it's still not what you expect. I really like the character, Ava, she is dealing with your typical middle school bullies and mean girls. And I think she handles it quite well. Going to Academia del Forte is a fresh start for her. And when she finds out that it's a boarding school for descendents of Greek monsters, she slowly finds her place. And it's her new friends and roommate, Fia, Arnold and Layla that helps Ava find her voice. Slowly, Ava- with some help from Fia begins to realize that the school is only telling stories that highlight or praise the gods. When Ava is challenged to find the true story of her ancestor, she realizes that the stories they've been told are not the complete stories. Ava channels the anger that she's been trying to control into bravery to stand up for the voiceless. This was a quick read with a fresh take on he Greek myths. I am really hoping that Marsh continues on in this world and explores other myths.
