Out of Body by Nia Davenport

I was given a digital copy of this book, free.  All opinions are my own.

This is listed as a YA thriller, but I would classify it as YA Sci-fi, horror. It could be called Jordan Peele's take on Freaky Friday.

After receiving a barbell tattoo, Megan and her new best friend, LC, go to a party at Nathan's house. Nathan is Megan's crush, but LC's mood shifts during the car ride over so Megan doesn't get to enjoy the night like she hoped to. Instead, she takes what she things is Molly and wakes up in a strange body.  It's not until she makes it home that she understands that she and LC has swapped bodies. It isn't until later that Megan realizes that LC did this on purpose. While I liked this overall. I still had some issues with it. The main one being that Megan is too damn native and trusting. I get the overwhelming situation and maybe it's simply that I have trust issues. But she ignores her instincts and the basic proof that neither LC or the FBI agent can be trusted. I do like that when backed against a wall they had to rely on themselves, outside wasn't coming. The characters had to depend on their strength and figure things out on their own.  While Megan is hella native, she also has spunk. The ending was a bit preachy (but the points about black girl trauma -valid). If you are looking for a heavy science based explanation you will be disappointed. But the explanation is there and maybe a bit more plausible then what is comfortable.
