-POTENTIAL SPOILERS-

This was another surprisingly good book! Not as good as Princess of Glass, but still pretty good.

Honestly, I agree with all the other reviews that say Princess of Glass was totally pointless. Despite being really good, the only part it plays in this book is mentioning Poppy's fiance. You could've skipped it entirely and moved onto this one instead.

The action and climax of the end were a lot better paced than in the first one, in my opinion. The author finally learned how to write good climaxes, it looks like. The only thing I wasn't a huge fan of was Petunia's character; she basically was like Poppy all over again. I know a lot of people have similar personalities, but there was basically no distinction between the two.

I liked the Little Red Riding Hood vibes I got at the beginning, as well as the setting; Russia. Although I must admit I don't know which fairy tale they're referencing in the story, if it is indeed an actual fairy tale and not one made up by the author.

Despite all this, however, I really enjoyed this. It was a solid conclusion to a decent book trilogy, and I was glad I got the chance to read it.

I love this world and always wanted the other two books to go into more depth. This book did that a bit, though towards the end. I really enjoyed seeing the other characters again, though it had been a while since I read those books. It was fun and I liked the characters. The plot was okay and it ended well. It is only very loosely based on little red riding hood, but I didn't need much more than what was given. It's just a fun story with great characters and a satisfying ending.

I LOVED this book, this series is one of my all time favorites. While I'm sad that it's over, I found this to be a very nice conclusion to the trilogy.

I really liked this book. However, I was a little disappointed that I didn’t absolutely love this book because I have loved every other book I’ve read by Jessica Day George. Despite that, I still really enjoyed reading this book. I do wish I had reread the other books in the series before I read it, but my husband was reading the series from start to finish for the first time, so I just decided to read the one I hadn’t read.

Petunia and Oliver were great characters. In some ways I couldn’t relate to Petunia since she was the youngest and I am one of the oldest. But she is a very strong character. The plot drew me in and kept me wanting to read. I think the book did a good job of finishing up the trilogy. One thing I liked was how this book provided little glimpses that made it so I could understand the villains’ points of view some and relate to them a little. There were many really good descriptions that not only made me feel like I was there but drew me even further into the world of the book.

Someday, perhaps even someday soon, I will reread the whole series, which I look forward to, as well as to reading and rereading other Jessica Day George books.

Rating: 4.5 stars – Highly Recommend
Content: Clean - a little violence, a few mild swear words (I counted 3)

Definitely a great conclusion to the series! Wrapping back in the mysteries of the first book and resolving them beautifully.

I enjoyed reading each of the Princesses of Westfalin stories, but this was my favorite! I’ve read a fair amount of fairytale story retelling, and these were told quite well!

Another fairy tale retelling, this one has a robin hood/little red riding hood vibe, that was interesting and somewhat charming. I think sadly it's George's last in this series. You do have to read the other two first to follow the story.

Oh Jessica Day George how I love you. I wish you would write books for all 12 princesses. I understand not wanting to commit to 12 books but how I will miss King Gregor's lovely daughters.

There is something about reading a final book in a series that makes it wonderful and bittersweet. If it's a good series you know it must end but you can't help wanting more. That is exactly how I felt as I prepared to say good-bye to my favorite dancing princesses. I knew that the story had to end sometime because eventually the cast of characters would get ginormous (that is in fact a literary term.) Okay not really but spell check recognized it. Already the cast was getting quite large and I found myself having to stop and think which prince went with which princess.

I would have liked to see Petunia and Oliver together more simply because they were just so adorable together. I like that they didn't fall instantly in love (it was quick but not instant). I'm old and cranky and insta-love annoys me sometimes.

The thing that I love most about these books, the Dragon series as well, is that George creates strong female characters that don't have to beat the snot out of people to prove that they are strong and smart. Don't get me wrong I love a good Katniss but it's nice to see strong young women who aren't violent. Petunia and her sisters are smart and strong and that is what attracts young men to them. In a world of YA relationships that are of questionable value it's nice to see relationships that grow out of mutual respect and actually getting to know a person.

Verdict: Book is already on order. I am often selling George's books to young girls and boys who are looking for adventure and wholesome fun. They are very popular in my library.
