Reviewing on 24.9.13; read on May, '13.

Regarding the first line of the blurb, I haven't read 'The Goddess Test', nor do I like 'Dexter' (Go on hate me now) so I don't know much about those similarities here. For me it was a PNR where the girl has to fight off her inner devils that can take power in their own hands in the name of good. The best scene of the book was when the girl is tied down to the bed by her crush since she's becoming uncontrollable. But the problem with the scene is we don't get to observe it, as it's only described once she's back into herself. So the best scene of the book was just my imagination. Talk about meh.

Really enjoyed reading this book again, I just love the idea of the Furies, and it's just a fantastic read! Still interested in a sequel!

What a great book, really enjoyed it, very unique take on the Furies, and I hope there's a sequel, because of Mindi, and yeah, really great book!

It's a real shame that this book wasn't very good at all. It was very good idea but i just felt that several of the characters and the ending really annoyed me . This book could have been so much better but it was actually quite boring.

I honestly have no idea how I feel about this book. But I'm pretty sure its a standalone, and the ending sort of makes sense. Just... I don't even know. I need some time with this one. Great debut though! Full review to come.

So here's the thing. I think, for the first time ever, that I am too old for this YA book. It was far too repetitive and angsty for me. Potential wasted. But...if you are 13 and like a love story it might be for you.

Oh boy, how do I explain this book...

the story
The story was an amazing idea, how could you survive if you had an insinct to kill bad people and the ability and help to do it quickly and without consecuences (kinda)... would you do it? would you fight it? would you try and find a balance?
It is a fantastic idea, original and crazy. It was perfect...

the characters
Cory: (lets just call her that taking into account through most of the book our MC answers to this name), who is our troubled MC... I tried loving her, I tried understanding her and at first I did, I mean, I would SOOOOO kill the bad guys, the people I KNEW didn't regret it, even if saying this means I have a God-complex, I would do it. I feel it's the right thing to do... now... the way Cory would alternate between feeling good about it and feeling like it was an unwanted duty, it was confusing. I would understand if our MC was confused, like, if she didn't know what was the right thing to do... but our MC knows it's the bad thing to do considering the fact the Furies are BAD and killing-lust-driven mythical creatures... they would end up controlling her for good and all hell would be loose...
So, why didn't I like our MC? Her weakness, her indescision and her incapability to make a decision and keep that path.

Niko: Okay, Niko was... I would have put him as the guy the girl doesn't choose in a love-triangle, right? you know, the guy who is a good option but just doesn't have that OPMH that makes you love him... He was bland and was one-sided (he's only described as having gorgeous eyes, but anything else Irleand? NAAH, he's just the love-interest, why would we want to know anything else about him?)

OTHER CHARACTERS
I didn't like any of them, they were all horrible people, even Cory says so (not that she's mutch better, thank you very much)

the end
OH EM GEE; really?
I'll just say the ending was the most disappointing thing EVERRRR. Our heroine has NO PART IN IT, it kind of HAPPENS to her, and yeah it might be considered a good ending, but really? It was NEVER up to the heroine. The book's like mocking you and saying: "You know how I put Amelie/Cory as your heroine? Well, there's no special thing about her
except she was kidnapped and so on the verge of dying of rage and angst and pain and sadness and literally dying she called the furies and also she almost died when she was a kid (on another occasion, it seems Amanda/Cory was very wanted by death) but her cousin died in her place (an accident, really, the cousing wanted to help but drowned), so oooops she's KIND OF different, but again, being kidnapped and almost dying accidentally is not up to you, is it?
and I could have put just about ANY-FUCKING-PERSON in her place, but oh well, she was there..."

That's it, don't go reading this book expecting a masterpiece like I did, just... expect a great idea ruined by a bad writer....

+ Furies!
+ Actual death and vengeance
+ Amelie/Cory battling for her humanity

- Is bad at forming relationships, but manages just fine here, without even trying (aside from having to focus on keeping the furies at bay)
- all her friends are fucked up in one way or another (which one could argue is true for all people, but I didn't like that the only people with a handle on their fucked up-ness gets shoved out of the story)
- Are pretty eyes all a boy needs to make a girl fall madly in love with him these days? Even as they got to know each other he didn't grow a personality.

This book is such a great idea, with glimmers of good storytelling, but for me it stops there. The characters and the plot development didn't really keep my interest and I kept ending up deep in my own thoughts about something else completely while I was reading.

FINALLY! This book took me a MONTH to finish. About halfway through it came easier, but c'mon! I REALLY wanted to like this because Justina is so awesome on Twitter & I'm stones for Dread Nation but this debut fell flat. The mythology was interesting, the high school clique was fun, but the opposite of info dumping happened, it was info pulling to even get any idea of what was happening. The plot and info reveals went around and around in circles. Just meh for me. The shark was brilliant though.

Guys, I love pretty much anything to do with mythology and the Furies fascinate me. So I was really excited to pick up Vengeance Bound, even though I'd heard a couple not so good things about it. And I was pretty disappointed...

I mean, it really is a fascinating concept that the Furies sort of get attached to a host and use said host to do their 'justice'. But this was exactly my problem, the '' around justice. The Furies in Vengeance Bound are not looking for justice, they're looking to kill as many men as possible, not even caring if someone is guilty or not. And that's what majorly put me off, but maybe more so that Cory actually goes along with this. I get that they don't leave her much of a choice, but it's scary how cold-blooded she is.

I couldn't connect to Cory. She's a little all over the place and she didn't seem to have much of a personality outside of being the Furies' instrument. But maybe it was just also because I just didn't like her. I felt no sympathy towards her whatsoever, so it was kinda hard to root for her in her struggles.

Several times I considered DNF-ing Vengeance Bound, but I kept going because I thought, but wait, this HAS TO GET GOOD, right?? But mostly it was just Cory bemoaning her fate and doing nothing to change it. And then there was this weird thing going on with Niko and one of Cory's new friends, who was seriously cuckoo-crazy. I mean, she pretty much had a sign over her head saying "HI, I'M INSANE, WHO ARE YOU?" and I didn't get how anyone can call themselves someone's friend if you don't try to get someone like this help. Really. LOTS of help.

I really wanted to like Vengeance Bound, but it was kind of a depressing book. I had no love for any of the characters and not even the Furies were interesting enough to keep me entertained.
