This book was a roller coaster. It had many ups and downs. The setting in a country town obviously around a time where racism still existed. I did not like the words used in the books and the language to describe people of color was painful to hear but I continued to read the book because Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors. This book was definitely not one of my favorites.

This story centers around a high school woman who was gang raped and her story of revenge. The details were so descriptive it was hard to get through some of the passages in the book. I learned the true meaning of hate and disgust when I was introduced to Neal Patchett, the main character. The character was such a horrible human being.

I think the storyline could have been shorter. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did an amazing job on the accents. Overall it was just ok. I wanted more romance in the novel. The ending wasn't the worst though.

Holy smokes that was a tough one. Well written and engaging enough to keep me reading even when it was difficult, this book was hard to set aside.

For all you Sandra Brown fans, if you missed BREATH OF SCANDAL, the first time around, never fear- NOW available, in kindle format, a page-turner! I really enjoy re-issues with the new trendy covers, to proudly display on book blogs, giving the feel of reading a brand new book.

Jade now lives in New York, a successful career woman; however, she has been driven by revenge for the last fourteen years. Everything leads up to her return to her southern small minded hometown of Palmetto, SC for a well-planned attack, on the three boys who raped her when she was in high school; as well as those covering up the crime, destroying her innocence and her future life with high school boyfriend, Neal.

It has been fourteen years since the tragedy, and Jade has not forgotten how she was violated. She has not been able to have an intimate relationship with a man since, and has buried herself in her work, in order to carry out her plan. She has made it to the top, and for the first time she has respect of others and power. She intends on using this position to make these three boys, now men -- pay.

There is also a second storyline of a man named Dillon. Early on in the novel readers are unaware how these two stories or characters will connect. Dillon, a driven engineer has reached much success in the construction business by being ethical. However, he has enemies who take short cuts. Later he experiences tragedy and is tormented by these events. Jade may be the one to help him get his life back. (loved his character)

Jade and Dillon meet in a business environment. However, these two may share more than they know and each of them may be able to right the wrongs, in order to move forward toward the future.

This is one powerful, emotional, intense, hot and sexy novel of tragedy, loss, love, and juicy revenge. Set in Palmetto, South Carolina, a suspenseful page-turner of two storylines which ignite, for a thriller you will not be able to put down. "Brown at her best"!

In addition to the e-book, happened to be traveling; was so engrossed, purchased the audiobook, to carry me through my trip, as well. If you enjoy Sandra Brown, (who doesn't?), fast-paced action, and southern mystery suspense, some romance, and life in the 70's-80's, BREATH OF SCANDAL offers plenty of twists and turns, a few surprises, and oh . . . so entertaining.

Breath of Scandal by Sandra Brown
Jade Sperry has relocated from SC to NY. Because they were better than her, had more money, they had the power, they raped her and she's gonna get revenge on them.
She had gotten out of the factory poor dirt town, Palmetto. Hate the subject: her getting raped and others have the power to stop her prosecuting them, but Love that she's able to move on with her life and go back to get
what is due her. The night she's left work early to go tell Gary she was accepted at college is the night the drunk boys found her and her girlfriend on the road, out of gas.
A car with some boys take her to get gas. Her friend stays with the car after they've driven off. That's when it happens and she makes her way crawling to the hospital hours later. Even her girl friend didn't stick up for her..
The story follows all the others and their pursuit of happiness...
The book also follows Jade and her life going to college on a scholarship.
Dislike the very difficult life she has to struggle through but like how she never gives up.
Like how as the story goes along we find out the other clues to solve the mysteries...

I enjoyed this book. I'm a big fan of Sandra Brown though it's clear that this is one of her earlier novels. The beginning of the book feels very choppy, like Ms. Brown couldn't quite find the pace. I almost returned the book (to the library) without finishing it. I'm glad that I kept it because it really hits its stride midway through. Much of the book is dedicated to past events and, while the events are integral to the story, I felt that they could have been done in a different way (again, the beginning just didn't have a good pace or flow).

Overall though, excellent story for an early work. I enjoyed reading it.

* I received this book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

I’ve never been a big fan of Sandra Brown. It’s not that I dislike her writing style, it’s just that they aren’t usually my kind of books. Well Breath of Scandal wasn’t my kind of book at all, but I still couldn’t put it down. I have to give the author serious credit here, because she wrote one hell of an amazing book. Jade went through an ordeal that would have cost a lesser woman everything, instead Jade turned it into serious career, a wonderful son, and the chance to get payback on those who harmed her.

There were many many characters that I absolutely hated in this book. Neal Patchett and his self-entitled bullshit. I have never wanted to kill a character so much in my life, but I had hoped that damn train had killed him. It was not to be. It was harder to hate Hutch and Lamar, because they were not the same kind of evil that Neal was. In a way it was worse because Neal used them to do his dirty work for him. Hutch and Lamar didn’t deserve forgiveness, but in a way they begged there way into getting one from me. At least they recognized what they did was wrong. They apologized to Jade, and yes there was no taking back that kind of act, but at least they owned there terrible choice. In the end karma/God/whatever got them for it. I was glad of that because Jade deserved her justice.

There were definitely parts of the story that moved slow, and I did find myself wishing that it would hurry up at times. I’d give it 3 out of 5 stars total based on that. I definitely recommend it for people who like mystery, suspense, and romance!

First romance type book that I ever read. The heroine, Jade, has her lift torn apart one afternoon in her senior year in high school. A terrible tragedy but Jade picks herself up and makes a good life for herself. Now she has to come back to her home town and deal with the fall out of what happens. However even in the darkest hour, Jade find someone to love.

Started reading on my kindle and soon realized I had read years earlier in paperback form. Awesome book and writing as always! Forever a fan of Sandra Brown!
