I felt that this book was a bit jumbled, a bit disjointed. In fact, in one place, at least one paragraph was missing! (That could be because I read this on a Kindle, and perhaps the digital edition was missing the paragraph???)
The story is a psychological thriller about the daughter of a serial killer. The daughter, Edie Beckett, is worried that she will turn out like her mother. She is obsessed with following the lives of the people who were left behind after Lilith killed their family member.
The book didn't really grab and hold my attention like some other psychological thrillers. I had to suspend disbelief on some of the story, especially how Edie was able to break into people's homes, and fly under the radar for so long, especially when a cop was watching for her. I had a suspect for a while on the most recent murder, but there was not enough to convince me of my hunch.
There were several characters in the story that seemed tangential, but actually paid a large part in the story. I don't know if the novel had enough meat behind those characters to make their story line believable as part of the larger narrative.

I have read almost all of Kate Moretti's books and they are all unique and such good reads. Lilith Wade was arrested for killing six women and usually a mystery/thriller would completely focus on her serial killing and her victims, but not this book. This book focuses on her son and daughter that are left out in the world trying to live with the consequences of what she did.

Edie Beckett was such an interesting character to follow. She was on the cusp of being unreliable and I liked that I was wondering if I should trust if she was a good person in the middle of all of the chaos. When one of the surviving victims of her mother's past is murdered and she was in the middle of it, Edie goes on the run and must solve the murder to prove her own innocence.

It had a slow start in my opinion and overall wasn’t my favorite read, but it was decent.

It took me quite a while to get through this. I could have done without the interviews that were interspersed between chapters. I found myself skipping a lot which is the telltale sign that I’m not loving it.

A decent story about people who come from a messed up childhood and how they get through (or don’t get through) life.

I received a digital ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kate Moretti is one of my favourite authors so I was thrilled to be approved for this title.

This book was different to your usual thriller in that it did not actually involve the crimes of a serial killer but rather focused on the daughter of the serial killer and how the crimes of the mother has affected her daughter. The daughter then becomes implicated in a murder and it's all twists and turns from there until we reach the conclusion of the book.

It took me a while to get into the book but once I was into it, I couldn't put it down. There were many twists and turns which kept me on the edge of my seat. What I like about Kate Moretti's books is that even though it's a psychological thriller, she writes with such sensitivity that one becomes attached to the characters in the books and I really become vested in seeing that they reach a happy conclusion.

I recommend this book for all those looking for a great psychological thriller.

"This feeling in my chest isn't elation. Or anxiety. Or anything I've grown accustomed to. Not dread or fear or nervousness. Instead, it is soft and insistent. So benign I could almost ignore it. It is a mutual, cautious peace. Contentment. The tentative wind beats of freedom."

I almost gave this book 3 stars, but probably downgraded it mostly because the audio version was just so terrible.

Edie Beckett is OBSESSED with her mother's murder victims. Lilith, a former serial killer who is locked up on Death Row, murdered many people 15 years ago and fractured many families. Edie, who works for the city's crime services, follows up with the victim's families to a degree that borders on unhealthy.

One night, the obsession crosses the line and she meets Peter in person, not letting him know who she really is. After a dalliance, she leaves and he turns up later the next day dead. And Edie is the last to see him alive. In an effort to exonerate herself, and possibly even Lilith, Edie goes on the run to evade the police and do some detective work of her own. She uncovers many surprises and unknown info along the way.

The writing style of this book is very basic, and the sentence structure is maddening. The twists are basic and not very interesting, and I didn't really care what happened to anyone. And the cover art makes no sense with the plot, which is always frustrating. Plus, I hated the narrator because she could barely differentiate two voices. It was a very annoying listen. I will most likely forget this book in a few weeks.
