In Her Bones by Kate Moretti

2.0

"This feeling in my chest isn't elation. Or anxiety. Or anything I've grown accustomed to. Not dread or fear or nervousness. Instead, it is soft and insistent. So benign I could almost ignore it. It is a mutual, cautious peace. Contentment. The tentative wind beats of freedom."

I almost gave this book 3 stars, but probably downgraded it mostly because the audio version was just so terrible.

Edie Beckett is OBSESSED with her mother's murder victims. Lilith, a former serial killer who is locked up on Death Row, murdered many people 15 years ago and fractured many families. Edie, who works for the city's crime services, follows up with the victim's families to a degree that borders on unhealthy.

One night, the obsession crosses the line and she meets Peter in person, not letting him know who she really is. After a dalliance, she leaves and he turns up later the next day dead. And Edie is the last to see him alive. In an effort to exonerate herself, and possibly even Lilith, Edie goes on the run to evade the police and do some detective work of her own. She uncovers many surprises and unknown info along the way.

The writing style of this book is very basic, and the sentence structure is maddening. The twists are basic and not very interesting, and I didn't really care what happened to anyone. And the cover art makes no sense with the plot, which is always frustrating. Plus, I hated the narrator because she could barely differentiate two voices. It was a very annoying listen. I will most likely forget this book in a few weeks.
