3.5. So, I’ve already watched the BBC/PBS series (which I adored), so this might be unfair of me—but it’s word-for-word with the show. Nothing is different. While I enjoyed everything in the show, something’s were lackluster when translated to literature. It didn’t read like any other Austen book, and I was bummed. With all that being said, Charlotte is one of my favorite Austen heroines with her naivety and bluntness.

I’d really like a season two because this book ends with absolutely no resolution.

Though I’m interested in Jane Austen’s unfinished novel, I didn’t fully realize that this is largely an adaption of the screenwriting for the show. Though I decent show, I don’t attribute this story to being consistent with Austen’s writing and story telling. Couldn’t get past that.

Did I read this solely due to the fact that Theo James plays Sidney in the tv show? Yes. However, this book was a major let down. I kept waiting for it to get better and it never did. Boring all the way through and if you’re wanting a happy ever after, you’ll be disappointed. The writing seems very juvenile at times. Definitely doesn’t have that Jane Austen feel.

Um, I don't like this ending. (Look, this is the ending you choose when you want to get a pickup for the second season of your TV show. This is not the ending you write for a romance novel of any variety. If you'll excuse me, I have to go stomp around about this now.)

I really enjoyed this adaptation of Jane Austen's Sanditon. It was nearly exactly the same as the TV series which I thoroughly enjoyed. Reading about Charlotte's adventure to Sanditon was beautiful and I feel like Kate Riordan captured it really well. The only bad thing I have to say was the ending. In the TV series I liked the way, Andrew Davis had ended the story, Charlotte had her goodbye with Sidney and then she got in the carriage and cried, which made me cry as I believed she and Sidney were soulmates but fate had decided against them. It was one of the most emotional scenes in the series. In this book, Riordan had added Sidney and Charlotte holding hands and said nothing about Charlotte crying in the carriage. I dislike how she changed this scene and the TV series did it really well.

If it weren't half Jane Austen, I might have given this 2 stars. You can tell it is unfinished even with the rush ending it was given. I feel like had Jane Austen finished, it could have been just as great as her other novels, but it is underdeveloped and the end is a jumble of hurried conclusions.
