All of a sudden, I want to go to a renaissance festival. This book was so cute! I loved the premise and the setting. It was mostly lighthearted and fun with an HEA. Jen was a new to me author and I was not disappointed! Her writing style is great. I’m really looking forward to reading more of her books.

The third act break up was…unnecessary. Quite a bit of miscommunication. This book was a pretty good example of two unhealed people with insecurities running rampant who try to make a go of it. Thankfully, this is fiction so they worked it out pretty quickly.

Overall, I loved it. I would have gone five stars, but I can’t get past the ick of the third act breakup.

(3/5) This was sort of cute, I guess. It was so hyped up for me that I was super curious about it, but it ended up being kind of lackluster. I heard it had 10/10 banter and enemies to lovers elements, so I read it immediately despite contemporary romance not being something I typically jump at. It could just be because this book was different from the overall murderousness and violence that my normally loved books have, but it did not hit the mark for me. The hate-to-love felt forced, like there was no reason for Simon to hate Emily whatsoever, he was just an asshole.

Long story short, this story was a fun, light read, which I expected. It was just not to my personal taste, but this doesn’t mean others won’t enjoy it much more than I did.

This was a fun, light novel and exactly what I needed. There were some romance cliches that I wasn’t a huge fan of, the main character seemed to be willfully not understanding things at times, and couldn’t put together clues into people and their situations for the life of her, but I still enjoyed the read. As someone who has worked as a tavern wrench at a renaissance festival, parts of it felt very true to life. Of course, the one I worked at was a real one, not a school fundraiser, so mine has a lot more drunk old man groping you, but other things still rang true. If you’re looking for a light read to relax with, I’d recommend this own fore sure.
