My Mini Review:
Rachel Vincent is just blowing my mind. When I thought I couldn’t fall anymore in love with this series I am proven wrong. If I Die is one of my favorite books in the series. And this book was just an emotional test, I was all over the place. So much happens in one book it took me awhile just to wrap my head around it all. Every character is tested, Kaylee, Tod, Nash and Sabine. I fell even more in love with some characters and others I can now stand, while some….I just want to bash over the head with a very hard object.
"You think I need to be rescued?" "I think it doesn't hurt to let someone else do the rescuing every now and then, when your own armor starts to get banged up."
Kaylee is really tested in If I Die, and I feel even in the toughest of situations she tries the very best she can. This made me like her character even more. She is thrown into a lot of obstacles, with Nash still not being Nash, Sabine still trying to stand between her and Nash. Also with some very unexpected news that Tod brings, oh and let’s not forget the Incubus that shows up. Kaylee always seems to have a lot on her plate. But she tries her best, and that makes her a really cool heroine to me. One I would love to be if I was in a story. And through everything, she tries to do what’s right. Kaylee also begins to see things differently, and people, and she begins to realize she might need to step away from Nash (which I was very happy about).
Now, Nash, I have never liked him. Something about him felt off, and in this book you are going to want to bash his head in even more. I know I did! To me, he is a very selfish character, weak in a way. And him and Sabine really do belong together. Slowly, Kaylee’s eyes begin to open about Nash and Sabine. She begins to understand things about herself, Nash and Sabine. And Sabine is just Sabine. At times I can stand her, others I really can't but you do understand her and at times I actually liked her character-sometimes.
Tod really makes an appearance in this book, and dear Lord, I loved every second he showed up. We get to see a lot more of him, and he is better than ever! Tod has always been by Kaylee’s side, supporting her and being a friend to her. But when he brings some news to Kaylee, her world takes a drastic change, and he never leaves her side. With every step Tod proves just how much he cares and Kaylee begins to see just how amazing he is. As I said, Kaylee’s eyes begin to open. Tod is an amazing guy, and you really get to see it!
"Together, we'd take crazy to a whole new level."
With a very creepy new teacher at school that is way more than he seems, and some very life changing news for Kaylee, If I Die is a whirlwind of a book. So much happens I can’t even begin to write about, to explain how amazing it was. But just take my word, if you gave up on the series, or are feeling like it can’t get any better, just keep reading, because it does. Oh boy it does! Rachel really is an amazing writer.

I couldn't put it down in some parts! However, there were some parts where I didn't want to finish it.

WOW!! Seriously.... I don't even know what to type right now. I started this book greatly excited to find out whats going to happen, and then slowly, I read less and less. NOT because it was boring but because there were so many other things I had to do. In the midst of all my real life craziness I felt like a drug addict who had to sneak away in a room, the drug (ereader) in my hand, and just satisfy my craving. Wow, could I possibly understand just how Nash feels?! I even grabbed my iPhone, Kobo app open in hand- reading WHILE at work. To me, that's a book to be addicted too.
Every single chapter piled on the anticipation, craziness, and paranoia I undoubtedly felt. So where do I begin? And how the hell am I suppose to begin?!?
There are two people in this story I really wanted involved more. Alec, why was I wishing that he would have been apart of this a bit more. I also kinda wished that some more "chemistry" would evolve between him and Emma. But I get it, how many other crazy things were going on, that I'm sure we didnt need to add to it.
I also wanted to learn a bit more about Lydia. When I read My Soul to Lose I hoped that Lydia would be involved in the series and felt dissapointed that she wasn't. When they broke her out and Kaylee gave Lydia her number I was sure that finally Lydia would call and be apart of something, but she wasn't. So maybe I could hope for the next one?
Nash, *sigh* I always seem to be on the opposite side of these "love triangles" all the time. Is it sad to say that I was heartbroken that him and Kaylee were no longer together? I get it, and I really do believe she is better off with Tod, but I just wish things didn't happen the way that they did. Nash clearly cared about Kaylee so much to fight the way that he did. Even the extremely harsh comments he made to her when he was high on frost bruised my heart, because I knew exactly how he would probably be feeling out of spite. Does any of that even make sense? Regardless, I wish he had somehow came to terms with their relationship being over in a more easier way. But then where would all the drama be right?
Sabine, for probably the first time ever, was someone I was happy to have around. She's badass and everyone can deny it and say how much they hate her, but really we love to hate her.
And finally (to leave the best for last) Tod. I have no words that could even express my thoughts on this guy. The feeling I'm sure everyone has about him is the same and your heart flutters at even thinking about how truly amazing he is. So amazing in fact that I had to stop typing to even think of the great ways and words I could say to describe how I feel about him in this book. But I literally can't. Why does June seem extremely far away?!

Ah, If I Die, happens to be my favorite book of the Soul Screamer Series. If I were to die now, I could honestly say that I died after reading the absolute best book of the Soul Screamer Series to date. That being said...I am overjoyed that there is another book coming out in June. I am not sure When I Wake can top If I Die...ever, but we shall see.
Have you ever read a series where you thought you knew what you wanted to happen, only to realize your heart wanted the complete opposite? That is exactly how I felt about this book. I can tell you this because I haven't reviewed the others...so you don't know what I'm talking about. LOL.
So, what to tell that won't spoil everything. As you know from the blurb...Kaylee finds out her life is nearing the end and so many things are left undone. Kaylee, Emma, and Sabine (yes, her) will have time for just one last mission before Kaylee's time runs out. Kaylee makes it one of her dying wishes to save her classmates from the evil that is Mr. Beck. Not only is she doing something good for humanity but she is keeping her mind busy, focused on anything but her death.
Nash spends his time vying for Kaylee's love and attention that seems to be divided between him and his brother. Kaylee commits to give Nash the thing he has always wanted before she dies...oddly though, a certain Reaper keeps showing up just in the nick of time. I have always enjoyed the tension between Tod and Nash. This book takes it to a whole new level. We learn things about Tod's death that Nash doesn't even know. We see Tod make decisions that may cost him greatly.
Kaylee makes a deal with a nightmare that I never saw coming. If Nash is the epitome of selfish then Kaylee is the epitome of selflessness. Okay, maybe Nash isn't always selfish. He has been trying really hard to gain Kaylee's trust and doing a pretty good job of it...but if you have read this series, you know what I am talking about.
I loved Kaylee's I-don't-give-a-darn-attitude-about-anything-other-than-getting-rid-of-the-demon-sucking-the-souls-out-of-high-school-girls attitude. Homework? Um...no. Closing the door to her bedroom when Nash is there? Um...hell no. Curfew? WTH? But...she actually went to school and that is more than I would have done.
A spine-tingling, heart-pounding, tear-jerking, and fury-evoking read. Never under-estimate Rachel Vincent's power to twist the plot, pull the strings, and throw the curve balls like no other. Her characters are multidimensional and have their share of adversities. In If I Die, some characters rise to the challenge and others fall from grace but through it all, they have each other...for better or worse. So many things take place in this installment, making it difficult to stop reading.

Ok, heartbeat slow down... Didn't see that one coming. Good book, good story, though it got really messed up for me on the cuadrangle relationship thingy. But I've come to terms with it, even though I wish it would have been better played out for the male lead. I feel the author is turning him into the bad guy, when at first he was everything, and though shit like that happens in real life and ppl change, I like Nash's character too much to see him like this. (with or withough Kaylee)... So yeah... what will the next book bring anyway? Lets see
