It has been some years since I saw the movie What's Love Got To Do With It and man....I hate Ike Turner all over again. Tina details their relationship and his abuse. If you're easily triggered please beware. I knew the abuse was bad from the movie but hearing it in her words...man...hopefully he's burning in hell. Anyway I listened to this on cd and Tina's voice is on briefly in the beginning and then it's read by Heather Alicia Simms who does a good job. Tina takes us from the beginning to current day. This woman has had one incredible life. She talks about her life growing up in Nutbush, Tennessee and how her mother and father used to leave her a lot growing up. She also talks about her health issues she's had and talked about her current husband (who sounds like a saint)giving her one of his kidneys. As you may remember Tina had a son who committed suicide in July 2018 and she talks about that which is absolutely heart wrenching. This was a great listen. I'm so happy that she found the strength to leave Ike so many years ago and now has someone who loves her the way she should be loved. WON'T HE DO IT?

Steve Jobs was definitely a genius. But he was also weird and an a hole. I knew this before listening to Small Fry, but hearing it come from his own flesh and blood gives it more weight. Thanks for the iPhone tho Steve!

I'm sad that Lisa and her mother were poor. I don't know how child support laws were back then but wish she had pushed more. Steve did do his part years later. This was such a weird listen.

I had to be careful in tagging this book because I could have given the secret out. MAN...this book was ratchetly delicious. I knew what the secret was three pages in but was still surprised. I'm happy to see there are some sequels because this story ended on a WTF note. I was kind of confused at one point when Pebbles called her mom and at the end of the conversation the mom was all like "I didn't want anything when I called." I thought Pebbles called her but anyways still a really good read with some shocking parts.

This has Hazel's husbands back story in it of him cheating. WHEEWWWWWWWW! I need more, I'd love to know if he rekindled anything with his friend after him and Hazel divorced. Loved seeing Hazel and Mari enjoying each other and their second chance at love. Also loved the part where they got tested for sexually transmitted diseases before becoming intimate. I'm glad Hazel's family was finally able to love and accept Mari. Seeing them drawn by different artists was fun. LOVE LOVE LOVED this!

I've been meaning to read this for years now and FINALLY got around to listening to this on audio book. I love Betty White and Golden Girls/Mama's Family are some of my favorite sitcoms of all time. Betty White is a living legend and I've always said the day she gets called home to glory I'll be crying like a family member passed. I loved how she talks about her career in television in this. I haven't watched much Mary Tyler Moore and this made me want to buy the whole DVD set because I know her mostly as naive Rose Nylund. Of course I really enjoyed hearing her talk about Golden Girls. Be prepared to be sad hearing Betty talk lovingly of people who were alive when she wrote the book who have long since passed. I lost count of the people she spoke of who I googled and learned they had died years ago.

This was a really good and quick listen. Betty White is a national treasure.

This was decent. This was two stories in one and I liked the first book with Gigi better than the second one. Gigi was a hot mess and she was ready to do anything to get dude off her back. The second story left the window open for there to be a sequel. I found myself losing interest in the second story and when it started getting good it was over lol.

Angie Thomas has done it AGAIN. On the Come Up was everything and more. I just finished listening to it and my mind is just reeling with a dozen thoughts right now.

I loved Bre's character from the beginning. A good kid who people loved to ASSume was a rachet thug. If you're black you've been down this road. I loved Bre's brother and her mother. Oh how I loved her mother. As a child of a mother who had a drug addiction I was rooting for J throughout the whole book to not go back to her "sickness". I loved her and Bre's relationship and J seemed like such a cool mother...reminded me of mine.

I can't form any more sentences right now but please read this. I liked this more than I did The Hate U Give and I absolutely loved that. I was able to hear Angie Thomas speak a few weeks ago and got to speak to her for a brief moment and she's absolutely amazing. I need for On The Come Up to have a sequel...Angie you can't leave us hanging!!! I want to know the famous person who posted that they should do a colab with Bre. Of course it will probably be a fictional character but I couldn't help thinking about someone like Nicki Minaj or Cardi B...

Oh and I loved the grandparents and the old ladies at the church. Every character in the book I swear I know or knew at one point...oh and I love that there are gay characters and no one is really side eyeing them.

ANGIE YOU DID THIS!!! I look forward to a sequel to this and the book she talked about when she spoke that's supposed to delve more into a Tupac song. Bravo. #BlackExcellence

And so begins the start of Rick and Michonne's friendship dissolving into a big ol pile of crap. WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!! Why did you invite that heffa Michonne!!??? I'm so upset Rick killed Dwight.

This was a really fun listen. My favorite parts where when Issa talked about fashion faux paus ( I can relate) and not being the best dancer (I too can relate). I'ved loved her since the Awkward Black Girl Youtube series and LIVE for her HBO show Insecure.

Update: I love that the day I finished listening to this, news came out that Insecure won't be back until 2020 because Issa is BOOKED AND BUSY!!! #BlackExcellence

This was a really good listen. Gabrielle Union has done and said some trash things in her past and isn't scared to read herself for filth and it's all good because she learned from it. I enjoyed hearing her talk about her time working on the movie 10 Things I Hate About You, that's one of my favorite 90s movies and picturing her and Heath and the rest of the cast chilling in hotel rooms and going out was fun. Her talking about being raped was really hard to listen to. She was open about how it still affects her life to this day. Also hearing about her talk about having multiple miscarriages was really sad. This book came out before her and Dwayne welcomed their beautiful baby girl via surrogate and I couldn't be more happy for her. I love how she calls Dwayne's sons "Our boys". Many step parents aren't even trying to be hands on with their step kids but Gabrielle has been such an advocate for them and their treatment in school and with teaching them how to be around police. Enjoyed hearing her talk about the parties Prince would have. I would have loved to have been a fly on the walls during them!

At the end of the book Gabrielle mentions a good friend of hers not getting to the doctor soon enough and dying from breast cancer at a really young age. This was extremely sad. I'm one of those people who goes to the doctor every blue moon if that so hearing her talk about her friend passing has made me ready to start going and getting check ups regularly. This was a really good listen.
