Felix Pink is a widower, pensioner and Exiteer. He, along with a fellow volunteer, attends the home of those who have chosen to die, to keep them company in their final moments. Not allowed to participate in their death, the exit were are there to provide comfort as the person escapes from whatever terminal illness plagues them. But when Felix and new recruit Amanda attend the home of Skipper Cann, things go awry and suddenly Felix is waiting for police to catch up with him.

Felix is a man with one foot in the grave. His wife and son have both died and he has his own plans for when the day comes but for now he is content with his work with the Exiteers. Felix is a great character, and the plot sees him forced
out of his comfortable life. The supporting cast are great too.

The plot, as should be expected from Bauer is brilliant. In the opening scenes when things go wrong, I both gasped and laughed at what transpired (partly because it reminded me of a sketch in a tv comedy that I won’t name). I thought I knew what was going to happen.....I didn’t. There’s a certain amount of humour in this book and I chuckled quite a few times at the predicaments that Felix found himself in or his reactions to them.

This is a standout book for me, wonderfully plotted, memorable characters and great writing; the best of 2021 so far. The age of the main character and the fact that he is trying to solve a crime will no doubt draw comparisons so The Thursday Murder Club and if those comparisons draw readers in then that’s great. But for me, whilst I thoroughly enjoyed TTMC, this is the superior book.

I have throughly enjoyed every book of Bauer’s that I’ve read and she has got to be one of the best crime fiction writers in the UK right now. This has prompted me to pick up the ones in her back catalogue I haven’t read yet and I’ll be looking forward to reading what she writes next.

I'm not quite sure what I expected going into this one, but it definitely delivered more than I could have anticipated.

On the face of it, Felix Pink is part of a group of people who help others to die when they're ready. But once a job goes wrong and threads start to be pulled at, there's a lot more to it.

This could have been just another run-of-the-mill crime thriller, but the author made it more than that. It has humour (didn't expect that, given the subject matter), warmth and genuine twists that weren't just there for the sake of putting in a twist.

Thoroughly enjoyed this one, will read more by the same author.

I liked the concept of the book, but I think I expected it to be more of a dark comedy. And while there was some dark moments to the book and some humor, I felt like the book didn't fully commit to either so it felt a little flat for me.
I also found some of the plot a little confusing and unclear, especially after a few additional characters were added in part way.
Overall, it's an interesting plot if you go into it with the right expectations.

I was so excited to get my hands on a copy of Belinda Bauer’s new release Exit after loving Snap so much! (Her other books are on my to be read pile!)

The main character, Felix, is a 75-year-old man who, despite having a slightly odd ‘job’, is quite loveable from the beginning though I am not sure that was actually the intention! Felix, otherwise known as John, is an Exiteer. Working with a small group of others and organised by Geoffrey, they ‘help’ people who are terminally ill to die through what is essentially an assisted suicide programme.

Felix is passionate about helping others to make a smooth transition after watching the love of his life die cruelly. Their programme is totally innocent and above board legally until something goes wrong and Felix and his companion find themselves in a bit of a mess! Always the gentleman, Felix says he will take the blame and sort all the consequences.

The story takes you through the period after the incident and entwines the lives of others around the exiteers. While this is a great crime novel there are some humorous and very loving parts to it, some of the characters are heart-warming even if they don’t appear to be so initially.

The books flows really well and draws you in, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next and the ending was the icing on the cake. Another great book from Belinda Bauer!

One of those books that’s good for when you just need something to read. I hit a bit of a reading slump in the middle and in general the book was fine. Picked up towards the end as books tend to. Would only recommend if you’re really out of good books.

My favorite mystery novels are character-driven stories where there happens to be a mystery in the novel. This story by Belinda Bauer accomplishes the rare feat of being an interesting plot and character driven story. There's a reasonably convoluted plot that unravels in pieces but there's also deep and interesting character studies in this story. It's also really fast paced. Accomplishing all that in a single novel is quite hard. I really enjoyed this one.
