I really enjoyed this book about the interconnectividity of life. While it is directly about ecology, it also indirectly covers vocation so beautifully. We all have a role to play, even if the good we do is not understood by others. The illustrations are beautiful and do an excellent job of supporting and interacting with the text.

A sweet story about an earthworm who is asked by a field mouse why he does what he does, and as he goes out in search of an answer, it suddenly becomes noticeable when he is no longer doing what he does.

A nice reminder to those of us who feel like we don't do anything special, that our "why?" will always be needed.

The moral of this story is familiar: everyone contributes to this world, no matter how small, and hopefully we can each make it better.

A wonderfully simple explanation of how one being can affect so many others while also explaining the way nature works. This is going to be a good one to put on Earth Day displays!

This is such a well told story! I really love how Carl is lead on an existential crisis and the visual impact that it has. We all depend on each other and this is quite a brilliant way to illustrate that point.

I picked this up off the Golden Sower shelf at our local library not realizing it is about an EARTHWORM....which I absolutely cannot stand. My daughter laughed with glee when we opened it last night and I realized what I had done. Although I had to use my hand to shield my eyes from the images of Carl himself, it was actually a pretty cute story about how all creatures have their purpose. I still don't like worms though.
