I didn't see the answer to this mystery coming. I should have. I liked it.

Meh. This series is getting ridiculous. There is no way any responsible police detective would share case details with the owner of a bookstore, let alone actually mull things over with her. Pullleeeze. Cops can't share details about cases with their wives, let alone anyone else.

Glenn is in a hard place. He recently married, a woman barely older than his oldest daughter, Cleo. His children aren't happy, his sister-in-law who moved up to help raise the children has been pushed out, and his cousin, Richard, is back in town. Glenn's business is failing and Cleo's advice seems to be pushing money out but not seeing any more come in.
Pat Merridew was fired from Glenn's business when Cleo thought they needed a younger, prettier receptionist. She's furious.
Henny Brawley is a friend of Pat's who is also upset with Cleo. The woman got Pat fired and now is bad-mouthing her from getting new jobs. But Henny helps to get Pat a job at "Death on Demand." Which makes it unusual that Pat seems to commit suicide four days later.
Then Glenn Jameson is shot to death. But who benefits? Most mysteries would point you toward the young and ambitious second wife. But she doesn't seem to benefit from his death as much as his children as well as the partner he was pushing out.
As always, this book opened up way too many other mysteries that I want to read. Uff da.

I bought this one at a library book sale a couple years ago but finally had a chance to read it over the summer, and it was perfect for a beach read. It’s not the best writing and there are some annoying characters (and for some reason never-ending descriptions of cat posters?!) but it was still entertaining, if not predictable.

But back to the cat posters cuz these need a little more explanation: the MC’s mother-in-law has a new ‘thing’ – she finds images of cats online, pairs them with punny sayings, and prints them to be sold as posters (think ‘Can I Haz Cheezburger’ meme). What I don’t get about this (besides why we need to hear the description of these plot-irrelevant posters every single chapter) is that neither the photos nor the sayings are hers, which means she’s facing copyright issues by selling these. Someone just sign her up for a facebook page so she can reblog these memes and be done with it.

I think I'm done with this series. How many murders can possibly take place on Broward's Rock?

This was a great book and a good addition to the Death on Demand series. My only complaint would be that Billy, the island Sheriff, is consistently portrayed like a dismissive idiot. I can understand his unwillingness to take Max and Annie seriously in the first couple of books, but we're well into the series by now and there are only so many times he can be proven to be wrong before it just wears thin. But I still love this series and this one doesn't disappoint.
