This one had some weird, curve ball plot twists, but I suppose its right in line with the over-the-top nature of this series. I got a bit bogged down in all the name dropping, but nevertheless, it was still compulsively readable and entertaining.

It was fun to keep following some characters from the previous novel. Especially entertaining were the shenanigans of Kitty and her attempts to enter high society with a coach and a reading list. Rachel and Nick are pretty boring in this, though I wish we’d gotten more of Eleanor. Several scenes of Rachel’s tour through the crazy rich society of mainland China dragged, though the drama at the very end provides a little plot payoff. Astrid’s storyline holds the most emotional weight and gets my investment, but then it’s frustrating when hers isn’t the main event of the book. A lot of style and some fun, but lacking in emotional and thematic depth.

It delivers if what you're looking for is a fun novel. The displays of wealth are over the top and it's so hard not get invested in Astrid. Without her the book would be a 3.

I don't see much growth of character development for Rachel and Nick, they're just so perfect all the time that it becomes a bit boring.

Pros: fun AF and Corinna adds a lot of fun to the drama.
Cons: Nick and Rachel are so good it gets annoying from time to time.

— while i can certainly acknowledge the many, many discrepancies / mistakes / faults of this book, i just love gossip too damn much to give it under a four star rating.

character wise…. oh boy, it’s been a journey.
there were so many new introductions (not all of them as interesting as i’d like) but for me, it was actually one of the characters i tolerated the least in cra who really shined, miss kitty pong! i loved her character development and felt very sympathetic towards her, something i thought was impossible after what she does to alistair in the first book.
nick and rachel… good lord, no. they were the characters that i was the LEAST interested in, even if this whole thing revolves around rachel. she got even more passive than in the last book and that just annoyed me so so so so much.

though not necessarily a brilliant, amazingly written book, i’m still invested enough to start the third one right this second !

This is one of the rare Book 2 in a series that's better than the first!

The pacing was so much better, there was just the right amount of comedy and drama, and some heartfelt moments too.

I really enjoyed this!
