My least favorite of the Pilgrim books so far. Perhaps I'm grading against too much of a curve, because it's still funny and O'Malley's art still has the verve. This is the volume where more actual adult issues come up, and while I'm fine with maturation (even though Scott Pilgrim isn't), it isn't resolved very well. And there just doesn't seem to be as many great video game jokes or fighting scenes--Scott's latest battle with Ramona's exes seems tacked on to the main story. So while I devoured the book as rapidly as possible, it came out a little empty. The Scott Pilgrim series is still awesome, but this volume isn't be a memorable one.

I feel like the series up to this point was about these characters growing and learning to be better for each other, and while some regression is natural when it comes to real and complicated characters, there is a little too much rushing to get to drama from where book 4 left off, even while some of the heaviest and most effective emotional swings of the series take place during this part of the story.

Not sure if robots or musical killer dragons are cooler....but I can tell you I'm glad the Katayanagi twins got lines in the book version of this tale.

After vacation and reading a handful of other books, I finally was able to get my hold on Scott Pilgrim #4. The fun thing about this series is that I was taken right back into the world, picking right up where I left off. I honestly enjoy that when I read books. It was also clear that by book #5, O’Malley has gotten the process down for creating Pilgrim and his world.

What, to me, was the highlight of the novel, is when Ramona had enough of Scott’s bullshit and called him an asshole. Something I’ve been calling him from book one. Here I thought I was the only one that saw he was an asshole and it seems that, no, others recognized this also. Although we’re on the second to last book, this is where everything seems to go to hell. Scott has to fight two evil ex’s. His band has dissolved and Knives is still obsessed with him and wants to bring hellfire down on him (because you know fighting the evil ex’s is not hell enough.) While threads are slowly being brought together, I did find myself annoyed at most of the characters throughout the series I’ve come to realize it isn’t them. It’s me. They are not a group I would hang around with, or talk to on a daily basis and because of this I find myself annoyed at them.

Yes, I know, branch out of your comfort zone, etc and that is what if anything this graphic novel journey has been about. Branching outside of my comfort zone, and while I don’t regret it. I do wish I didn’t want to shake the characters so much.

Still fun, still very smartly done, but getting a little long in the tooth, I feel. I can't help thinking O'Malley could've trimmed a few exes and shortened the story to three or four books. Taken on its own, I still liked this book, however.

All the Scott Pilgrim books are winners, and this one is no exception. I kind of appreciated the way that the action of Scott's fights, esp the lead-up fights with the Twins robots was put into the background. I mean really, we've seen lots of it before, so why not show something different.

That said, some of the plot mechanics here felt a little creaky, from the confusion over infidelity to where I think the narrative is taking Kim Pine, which I hope is just a red herring. It's like this was the volume where O'Malley was like, okay, I have to get in some plot movement for the big finish-- and I'm not really opposed to that, but I wish the plot moves were as fresh as other parts of this story have been.

I still really enjoyed it, and the character work this issue, esp the clothes, was as awesome as ever, if not better-- many times, I found myself thinking, Ramona Flowers is hot! Which is a little embarrassing, honestly:)

I'm excited to see the way it all turns out, and more confused than ever that Michael Cena is going to play Scott in the movie.

I think(?) this was my favorite of the volumes. They're already all bleeding together. But it was good. Very fine, indeed.
