I was given an e-ARC of this book by Reina Regina in exchange for an honest review.

"...if a reader lives a thousand lives, then the thousand heroines in me would gladly belong in a thousand happily-ever-afters with the thousand heroes in you."
- It Is Written, Reina Regina

First of all, I would like to thank Reina for entrusting me an ARC of her first ever book. I was so thrilled when she told me and I have nothing but love and support for thing beautiful girl inside-out. I truly hope nothing but the best for her and her work.

I have fallen in love with this book in so many ways! I know that I will love from the start, but I never thought that I could relate to almost all of the poems as much as I did. I loved how it points out that self-love is important and that nothing in the world can stop you once you've found that love for yourself.

To be honest, the part that was 100% relatable to me was the Roots section of the book. It hit me so hard in a really good way; made me realize that I am still my own person no matter my roots, no matter what they expect and who they want me to be. I am my own person, and I should be the one to decide my future. I am my own person, and I need to stop letting these people hold me down.

"She's art and science, faith and magic,
all wrapped up in one.
And you may see one side of her at a time,
you may insist she stay on one path at a time;
but she is all of those things,
always, inseparably.
ANd what path she takes
is not up to you."
- The Scholar, The Witch, and the Writer, Reina Regina

I would like to thank Reina for reaching out and sharing with me her work. It means so much and I hope nothing but the best for this book when it finally comes out by November 11!

The moment I read the book's foreword, I knew that some parts of it (if not the whole book) will hit me hard. I can fully relate to Reina's thoughts of learning independence and having a strong mind early on in life. As I grew older, I learned more about keeping my value as a person and how much part of myself I am willing to share to other people.

These poems will definitely make you realize why self-love is important, and it will remind you of some moments of bliss and self-acceptance. I admire the way this book was written, and surely, you will find something that will hit close to home.

"This book was born after twenty-six years of learning that it’s okay to want to be wanted, that vulnerability is merely throwing open the gateway to honest connections, and that fighting to be loved the way you deserve is bravery and not weakness." - Reina

"They said, Never make homes out of people. But you're the only home i've ever known."

Ahhh it hits so close to the hard and the words were perfectly woven together. Reina was kind enough to approach me to review her work but I was in such a bad place I just read it now and it was glorious.

I find us in every story I've ever read

and if a reader lives a thousand lives,
then the thousand heroines in me
would gladly belong

Thank you to the author for a gifted eBook in exchange for an honest review

I firstly want to point out how absolutely stunning the illustrations in this book are they are gorgeous! Also, the structure and layout of the book, for each individual poem or haiku to have its own space or page, makes it very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing

Please pick me is an absolute treasure to read, there are a number of themes that run though the book such as abuse, toxic relationships, and self-esteem issues, but these poems honestly make the reader experience an emotional response. Personally, this is an inspiring collection of poems that I felt completely connected to, some of these poems resonated with me so strongly that I felt understood, it is amazing at how much power words can hold

The thought into naming each chapter and poem after a form of flower or a relation to flowers is great, and it was such a recurring theme through the book that really helped alongside the title and one of the thoughts that I came away with, that we are all just flowers in a garden hoping to be picked right

I really like inclusion of the foreword, I felt such open honesty and I feel special to be afforded that insight into the author and the foreword really resonated with me, we truly are just hoping people pick the real you, not the ideological version they have

I loved every single poem in this book, but some quotes and poems really affected me more than others, as I was reading the poems and realising my own life experiences, these quotes especially hit me and made me pause for thought;

• Family ties are nothing but puppet strings
• It matters to me the effort to make me feel that I had mattered

Plus, the poems themselves, my absolute favourites are;

• {it is written}
• {pirate}
• {he jests at scars}
• {thank goodness}
• {call abuse abuse}

Also, it was a unique concept to write a poem about every tarot card in the deck, I found that really intriguing and new, I haven’t read anything like that before. I had a number of favourites from this part of the book too, and I am very curious to see if by having a favourite poem in this collection, is the tarot card you are most drawn to? My favourites amongst the {love letter from the Major Arcana} are:

• i – the magician
• vi – the lovers
• ix – the hermit
• xiii – death
• xv – the devil

My only confusion was the index being at the end of the book, it felt like this should have been as the beginning as a content page

I would honestly recommend this to everyone it is a short absolute must read and if you are a fan of Rupi Kaur you will especially love it

Please Pick Me is a collection of haikus, poems, and prose pieces, divided into four sections, that explore different themes such as love, pain, relationships, hope, and acceptance.

Expect the words to be honest and emotional as it is crafted based on the author's own experiences. Add the pretty art that goes well with the mood of each section.

I may not see myself in all of the pieces, I'm sure I learned something in every one of them that I may need in the future.

Now let me begin squealing about this book. Or shall I say try to put this bundle of emotions – from excitement to astonishment to relatability to belongingness to sadness to happiness to courage – into a few hand picked words which may or may not portray my exact feelings for this book.

To start with, I’ll be honest here, as much as I am about reading write ups and poetry by people, I am not much of a poetry book reader. More like this would be the first poetry book I ever read and I am not kidding when I say that I finished it in one sitting. That’s all it took. I started this playlist of mine and read through it and honestly, that was the best feeling ever. Poetry is something that is just meant for expression – some raw emotions that require to find a footing on a page and that is what it felt like. The foreword was what brought me in, with the writer describing how she the feeling of being wanted even after one is independent is what she hoped to convey with this book and BOOM! I was into this book from write then.

What amazed me was how each line was alive in its own self. Just something one would need to put a smile on face. Similarly, the section which dealt with the darker emotions of one self was extremely hard hitting. And the epilogue just sewed everything together very beautifully. So, here is my piece of advice: GO READ IT ASAP!

Trigger/Content Warning: Mentions of anxiety, depression, abuse, trauma, and a suicide note

ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review.

Please Pick Me has a great emotional impact. This poetry collection has the common themes such as self-love, pain, abuse, longing, self-worth, toxic relationships etc. Yet, it makes me say "Hey, I felt that" on majority of the poems. Some hit hard and it's difficult to hold back my tears (especially when I've read call abuse abuse -- this one is my favorite prose btw). Realizations came into my mind and as I grow older, I learned it's okay to let go of the things that drains your soul. People might find it selfish but no, you deserve peace. That makes you wiser and braver.

Another thing I loved about this collection is its structure. They are not rundown sentences and can I commend how beautiful the design is? It makes the poems very atmospheric. Overall, I recommend this collection. Thank you for sharing your masterpiece, Reina. It means a lot for readers mostly those who are going through the tough times.

My favorite poems in this collection are:
- call abuse abuse
- pirate
-six times we were fated and one time we weren't
- how romantic
- love letters from the Major Arcana

Final rating: 4.5 / 5 stars
