Thank you to the author for a gifted eBook in exchange for an honest review

I firstly want to point out how absolutely stunning the illustrations in this book are they are gorgeous! Also, the structure and layout of the book, for each individual poem or haiku to have its own space or page, makes it very beautiful and aesthetically pleasing

Please pick me is an absolute treasure to read, there are a number of themes that run though the book such as abuse, toxic relationships, and self-esteem issues, but these poems honestly make the reader experience an emotional response. Personally, this is an inspiring collection of poems that I felt completely connected to, some of these poems resonated with me so strongly that I felt understood, it is amazing at how much power words can hold

The thought into naming each chapter and poem after a form of flower or a relation to flowers is great, and it was such a recurring theme through the book that really helped alongside the title and one of the thoughts that I came away with, that we are all just flowers in a garden hoping to be picked right

I really like inclusion of the foreword, I felt such open honesty and I feel special to be afforded that insight into the author and the foreword really resonated with me, we truly are just hoping people pick the real you, not the ideological version they have

I loved every single poem in this book, but some quotes and poems really affected me more than others, as I was reading the poems and realising my own life experiences, these quotes especially hit me and made me pause for thought;

• Family ties are nothing but puppet strings
• It matters to me the effort to make me feel that I had mattered

Plus, the poems themselves, my absolute favourites are;

• {it is written}
• {pirate}
• {he jests at scars}
• {thank goodness}
• {call abuse abuse}

Also, it was a unique concept to write a poem about every tarot card in the deck, I found that really intriguing and new, I haven’t read anything like that before. I had a number of favourites from this part of the book too, and I am very curious to see if by having a favourite poem in this collection, is the tarot card you are most drawn to? My favourites amongst the {love letter from the Major Arcana} are:

• i – the magician
• vi – the lovers
• ix – the hermit
• xiii – death
• xv – the devil

My only confusion was the index being at the end of the book, it felt like this should have been as the beginning as a content page

I would honestly recommend this to everyone it is a short absolute must read and if you are a fan of Rupi Kaur you will especially love it
