I have giggled so much while reading this that I think I am officially classified as "a menace" by the other people in this coffee shop.

Sorry! (Not sorry.)

Good short. I'll be glad when Alice isn't little anymore.

I like Naga, I hope he appears later. I also love the mice and little Alice.

Goddamn snake cults. The first half of this story was positively charming, and I loved Naga and his quick friendship with Alice and the Mice. I was a little confused about why the mice refused to disobey the orders of the Priestess of Unexpected Violence when we've seen them disobey direct orders before and when they were getting new orders from their new priestess. It seemed contrived and I knocked a star off for that.

LOVED this one.

I have to admit that I was a bit worried when I realized it was primarily told from the POV of a six-year-old, but McGuire nailed it. Alice was hilarious and there was enough adult POV to keep it from getting too child-like.

This is what happens when a Healy is kidnapped while out trick-or-treating.

Happy Halloween.

The last couple of short stories were rather dark with a lot of death and sadness, so it was nice to see one that was a bit lighter and more funny as well. It is Halloween and Fran, Alice and her babysitter are trick-and-treating. That is, until Alice is snatched by yet-another snake cult. However, things are not going exactly as planned for said snake cultists.

This was real fun. There was some stress about Alice being kidnapped of course, but knowing that she is Verity's grandmother and still has a Covenant boy 'to turn to the Dark side' was reassuring during this part. The mice are great as they always are, but also really come in to save the day. I would certainly recommend this story.

"They made their choice. Not everything that isn't human is evil. But not everything human is good."

Fran decides to take sweet little Alice trick-or-treating now that she's old enough to realize that it's not just one big hunting expedition and she doesn't really need to be afraid. What starts out as a girl's night out (mother, daughter, and "Aunt Mary"/ghost/babysitter) becomes a horror story when Alice gets kidnapped by a Snake Cult. What a twist!!

Snake cults and Alice Healy make an awesome combination. Possibly my favorite of the short stories thus far -- love Naga and his personality mightily.
