Wow. That one word pretty much says it all. With the opening page, C.J. grabbed me by the throat and didn’t let go until the last page. Snake Skin is definitely one of the best suspense novels I’ve read.

Lucy Guardino is a typical soccer mom, except that, as an F.B.I. agent, she carries a gun and hunts down vicious perverts who go after children. In this book, she’s up against one of the worst she’s ever faced. Faced with the threat to her own daughter, Lucy does what is necessary, even if it means she might not make it through.

Unlike most thrillers, this one has a female protagonist, but it completely works. Lyons skill with characterizations shows as she makes Lucy strong, but also vulnerable. We believe she can be a mom, a wife, and a kick-ass agent all wrapped up in one neat package. The thrilling plot keeps you turning the pages as the suspense keeps building. Just when you think it’s over, she throws in another twist.

This is a fast-paced read that will appeal to anyone who loves thrillers. Definitely recommended.

First book I've read by CJ Lyons. Lucy Guardino is an FBI agent who leads a team working against sex crimes involving kids. When 14yo Ashley Yeager is taken, Guardino and her team work around the clock with local and federal agencies to find her and bring her home. Dark subject matter, but well-written. Liked the characters a lot. Lucy was tough but also human - overprotective of her family, a bit rash with her actions when her zeal got the best of her. And she went with her gut, even when she knew the consequences would not be favorable. I'll read more.

Solid police procedural book with a characters who come off as a real people. I'm not in love with any of the characters, but that could change if I read more of the series. The smart law enforcement woman trying to balance work and family has been done before, and done better, but this was pretty good.

The one thing that I didn't particularly care for was the fact that the reporter woman is the stereotypical attention-seeking promiscuous, designer-clothing type who women love to hate. While I'm glad that there were an equal number of men and women in the this book, it seems like Lyons may have been projecting some of her bitterness towards other women in her characters.

Good police detective character. Her husband who is only on the sidelines is a little "nice" - lacking in personality, but the storyline is pretty good so pulls you along.

Solid 3.5 stars for this book. Likable characters, strongly written protagonist, the villain(s) just a little too "mua-ha-ha" evil and unhinged for my liking but definitely a workable thriller and characters I would enjoy seeing again in other books.

Readable thriller. I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend it to anyone, but if you're in the mood and nothing else sounds good, go for it.

Loved it, creepy snakes and all. I like Guardino's humanity. She is not some cardboard FBI cutout. She's not perfect but she is determined to help the helpless, often at the expense of time spent with her family.
The case while interesting is secondary to the detailed portrayals of Guardino, her family and her coworkers. Looking forward to reading more books by this author.
