Yellowbird and Jellyfish have been two of my favorite poems since I discovered Andrea’s work in 2013.
To this day I write this quote on the back of pressed flower bookmarks to gift to strangers and friends alike:
“A doctor once told me I feel too much
I said so does God
That’s why you can see the Grand Canyon from the moon”
This collection is full of queer, activist, loving, and vulnerable energy - all things I know I can trust Andrea’s writing to bring to the table.

I really wish I would've liked this book more, but I really didn't. I think it's a very important and personal volume for the author, grappling with gender, religion, sobriety and writing about love, but it really din't get me :(

reread for august 2023 poetry challenge day 9. gibson was one of the first poets I knew by name when I started getting into poetry in high school. even if its now closer to a 4 star collection, i'd never have the heart to take the 5th away.

I really don't click with Gibson's style. I can't quite put my finger on what it is...I can take a step back and appreciate that her poems are good, and her voice is very powerful. But I dunno...I think all the jarring juxtaposition and confusing metaphors don't make much sense to me. Some are better than others I suppose but overall, as much as I've tried, can't get into her stuff.
