اليومين دول بدور على ما هو صغير لأقرأه - ولقيت الرواية المترجمة ديه للكاتب "جورجي أمادو" وترجمة "عبد الجليل العربي" فبدأت فيها!
القصة عن الرجل المحترم المعروف بهدوئه وأخلاقه والذي أصبح في نهاية حياته عربيد سكير صعلوك مما جعل أهله ينكرونه ويتجنبوه وعند موته يحاول أهله إخفاء تاريخه السيء وإظهار فقط ما كان عليه من وضع جيد قبل انحرافه عن المسار!
القصة جميلة جداً وساحرة من كل جوانبها - فالبطل هو الميت صاحب الحياة المحترمة وصاحب حياة التشرد والعربدة! جمال وصف تفاصيل المواقف المختلفة في الرواية كان له تأثير رائع كما أن أسلوب الكاتب الساخر الذي أدخل الحقيقة مع الخيال رفع الرواية إلى السماء!
رواية قصيرة ممتعة مليئة بالأفكار وعميقة للغاية!

For being such a short sorry I can say with certainty that this was fairly entertaining. However, I do believe that the translation ruined a big part of the book to me. Aside from typos, I felt that if I didn't speak Portuguese fluently I wouldn't have understood what the translator meant at various points in this. I also felt that the use of the n word was unnecessary and a mistake since we all know what weight it carries here in the States and there isn't an equivalent to the n word in Brazil. 3.5. Will definitely try to read more from Jorge Amado, but this time in Portuguese.

A clever and fun little novella. I couldn't find my book this morning so I grabbed the smallest book from a stack of Penguin Classics that I haven't shelved yet.
Shows the dichotomy of Quincas' family and friends in respecting him for the man he was, not the man his family wanted him to be.

A simple and fast read novel set in the backdrop of mid-twentieth century Bahia (a northeastern state in Brazil). The humorous narration of Jorge Amado makes it a worth read.
