New favourite character perhaps?
I enjoyed this book a lot, the fact that it was a tale within a tale was a nice touch and leaves you curious about what's happening and how the stories will flow together eventually. The new cast was very entertaining and the wit from the first series remains. I found it a little easier to keep all the names of things and people right in my head though, which helped a lot.
And once again, the narrator does a stellar job, I do feel he complements Rowe's writing wonderfully.

I listened to this, and honestly found it a bit meh. I think part of it was that it was the ?same narrator? as the Cradle series, and so I kept hearing Yerin instead of the sword or whatever it was supposed to be.
Find for a listen, but despite how much I like Rowe's writing, this was a miss for me. I won't be proceeding with the following books.

I really liked the first two Arcane Ascension books and was looking forward to learning more about the distant continent that Keras is from and his mysterious history. This definitely delivers a bit on both, but I'm not that into Keras. To avoid spoiling any of the events in the book, here's my impression of Keras in New York:
Keras is the kind of guy who wakes up, pours himself a bowl of cheerios, looks for traps, and then asks the cheerios if they're willing to be eaten or what distant lands he can venture to and what artifacts he can recover to deserve the honor of eating those cheerios. The milk, which also happens to be sentient, becomes a love interest despite only knowing the inside of the carton and having the maturity of a child.
When Keras is not using his sword to slice through intricate puzzles and suspicious doors, he's carefully weighing the risk vs the speed of each line at the grocery store. When he's not obliviously asking personal questions, he's carefully maneuvering conversations to extract critical information.
This book has a similar amount of detail and internal thought to Arcane Ascension, but lacks the character growth and thorough introduction to the world's magic that made Arcane Ascension charming.

4.5-5 stars from this crew of 2 adults and 2 middle school boys. Great sense of humor and terrific voice acting - it was easy to listen to.

I love this series and found this book to be super fun. It's much more lighthearted than Arcane Ascension but is still very heartfelt.
My favorite part was the characters; I fell in love with Rei and Dawn and their dynamic with Keras is adorable and wholesome. Keras has big himbo energy. He's a fun contrast to Corin, who is relatively weak but creative and intelligent. Keras will just throw his big muscles into his problems and just skips the puzzle aspects which I found charming and hilarious. He's also a respectful king with fantastic morals.
I think I made a mistake reading this before WoBM because there are references to many characters I've never heard of. The plot is still accessible but I feel like I missed out on that cameo excitement that I always enjoy. I'm not sure if I should read Arcane Ascension #3, War of Broken Mirrors #1, or Weapons and Wielders #2 next; if anyone has opinions I would love to hear suggestions!
