I really liked the two longer stories in here: the first AU where the girls never became friends, and the one in London with Shelley. They both had a very cozy, holiday feel to them, and the shenanigans the girls always get into are a riot.
The shorter stories weren't especially my favorite. I thought the one with Fishman was too out of place for this series and just seemed so disconnected from literally everything else in the "Giant Days" world. And then the two with the missing food and the band were alright, just not nearly as good as the main GD comics always are! They got a chuckle out of me but they just lack substance.
This still remains my favorite contemporary comic series and I love it dearly; this collection was a nice little treat to read but I definitely prefer the main stories. :)

I have been more than a little lukewarm on Giant Days lately. The first few volumes were truly something special, but ever since then I have basically read them because I felt like I had to. The three main characters are fantastic, but the stories surrounding them lately have not been. This is all to explain my trepidation with reading Extra Credit. Was that trepidation worth it? Yes and no. As many reviews noted, the first story is the clear highlight because it showed why the readers are so captivated by these characters. The other stories are hit and miss, which is a shame because of how much I love this series at one point. I also still miss the old artwork.

EW. I didn't like this one at ALL.

The first story is cute, it's What Would Happen If The Girls Had Never Met, and it's funny and quirky. But the rest are fairly horrid, plus it appears another artist handled some of this, and they...weren't good.

Ugh.

Did I enjoy the first story? Yes.

But the rest of them left me wanting and were overall boring.

Neither the stories nor the character interaction was as fleshed out as it is in the main series, so this volume fell flat. Also I didn’t care for the difference in art style.

Me ha encantado la primera historia a lo What If Marvel. Las demás son más flojas o ya las había leído pero le da un bonito cierre a la saga.

Ok! So this is a collection of shorts from different illustrators & like most collections some of them are amazing and some of them are less so.

The first story is great! Its a 'what if' story if Ester, Susan, & Daisy had not become friends in that first week of school. I really liked this glimpse into what could have been &the art is classic Giant Days so it's perfect.

The next short is a bit weird & pulls in a character from Allison's earlier work Scary Go Round (which I read obsessively online for years & loved, but I know many people who read Giant Days have not). The story is short, the illustration style strange, & it just doesn't work that well.

The next story also prominently features a Scary Go Round character, Shelley Winters. The story has a cute romance-y shenanigans & the girls plotting together, plus Jenn St-Ongle's amazing art (it's not something I think would work all the time here, but it is quite lovely) so it's definitely a win, but you'll enjoy it more if you've read Scary Go Round.

Next there's a bit that Allison illustrated where the girls get into some food & music based shenanigans. cute stuff.

& finally we have a bit of classic Scary Go Round shenanigans (John Allison illustrating, of course) with Shelley discovering the secrets of her job.

Over all, If you've read all of John Allison's work you'll love the throw back bits & the stories. If you're only here for Giant Days you might be confused/disappointed with some of these stories.
