I did not like this at all. It was not up to par with his other books, but instead seemed to be a dried out storyline, with pieces recycled from plots of older books and movies. My nephew hasn't read it yet, but I am eagerly awaiting his review

If you thought the last Captain Underpants book was weird, you ain't seen nothing yet. Time travel, alternate realities, and more hypnotism, this is definitely a strange one. A very entertaining read with all the same things that made you fall in love with these books in the first place (the cheesy jokes, the toilet humor, and most of all, the flip-o-rama).

A quick and funny read.

I can understand why this is a popular series with kids. I started out really enjoying it, but by the end I wasn't really all that interested. Two friends step into a purple port-a-potty time machine and get transported to a parallel and opposite universe. In the parallel universe, their counterparts are evil and their principal is good (but turns into the bad Captain Blunderpants instead of the good Captain Underpants). The writing is quirky, grandparent lovebirds get naked and become superheros, and...wait...what? I don't know. The storyline just spiraled into utter madness by the end. And both my daughter and I were left feeling cheated that there were no purple people in the entire story. I suppose that the "Purple Potty People" are just the people (not purple) that were encountered when the boys traveled to the parallel universe in their purple port-a-potty. But, gosh, look at the title; did you really think this was going to be high literature? It's definitely for the age range you think it's for and appeals to silly, silly toilet humor. It's fun in parts, but it's really not sane.

Note for U.K. Teachers:
The majority of the Year 3 & 4 Statutory Spelling List words are in this book so perfect for kids who need them putting into context & practice reading them!

My son really enjoys these books and this one was no exception. We had a lot of giggles reading this together. It seemed like this one had a little more name-calling than the other books and I didn’t love those parts but otherwise it was a lot of fun.

Another entertaining adventure from Pilkey, an author who has taken hold of my son's reading interests as strongly as Mo Willems did when he was younger (if you don't know Willems, this is a big deal). This entry really stretched some concepts for a 5 year old but it is a testament to Pilkey's greater project as a writer and educator that he completely gets away with it and inspired conversations about time travel, imaginary dimensions, and the possibility of booger monsters all in the same night. Thanks, Dav!

Wie? Onderbroek?
