I have been desperate to read Carter's story from the moment he was introduced, and he did not disappoint me at all. He was the reason I finished this book.

Molly on the other hand, she frustrated me extremely. I understand she had issues, big issues, over what happened twelve years ago, but I had such a hard time relating to her and all of her reasoning.

Overall, I was left wanting more, but that being said I look forward to more in the series.

Years ago Molly and Carter had a hot and heavy love while in high school but when tragedy struck Molly left Hope, never looking back. Now that she’s back in town for her sister’s wedding she can’t avoid Carter or the feelings that she still has for him. Carter knows that he was a dumb kid who made mistakes and now that Molly’s back in town he’s ready to reconnect. When they get the chance to reopen old wounds and rediscover their love, can they find a future or will Molly run at the first chance? Really enjoyable story in the Hope series. I almost felt like it could be read as a standalone but there were some reoccurring characters that having the background helped me enjoy a little more. I really liked the connection between Carter and Molly and I loved that he was the one who was treading lightly with his feelings because he didn’t want Molly to leave. I thought the ending went a little quick but we got a HEA so it balanced out. Good read!

2.5 stars.

I feel like the whole past between Molly and Carter isn't addressed enough. They didn't really discussed it before reconnecting and that kinda didn't sit well for me.

It's been a long, hard, stressful two weeks and the last book I read was a dud so I needed something that would give me good feels and Hope Burns nailed it. I didn't realize this was part of a series at first so I'm bummed that I read book three first, but whatever. It was a great read and I look forward to reading more of Burton's books in the future.

Molly Burnett left home twelve years ago after a failed romance with her high school sweetheart, Carter Richards, and never returned. Now she's back for her sister's wedding and isn't looking forward to seeing the man who broke her heart.

I enjoyed returning to small-town Hope and the dynamics of the close-knit friends. At first, my curiosity about the specifics that drove Molly out of town kept me in the story but that took too long to develop. Once revealed, it just didn't square with her staying away from her family that long. Carter was too nice of a guy for a woman who just wanted to run to nothing, especially after they resumed their relationship. Unfortunately, there just wasn't much else going on in the story to balance the weak romance, although they certainly burned the sheets!

The story was entertaining, just not remarkable. I'm looking forward, however, to the next book as those main characters should prove much more interesting.

(I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

This was not my favorite books from the Hope series. I loved, loved, loved Carter and he is what kept me reading and loving this book BUT Molly, didn't like her so much. She just needed to get over herself and realize that Carter suffered just like she did BUT she ran, so she never knew or gave him the chance to tell her how he truly felt. Even after she returned home she didn't want to discuss what happened in their past and when feelings arose that she didn't want to face, she ran again. I liked the part best where Carter finally let her have it, because maybe that will open here eyes.

More of the same

After reading Hope Flames, which I really enjoyed, I have been becoming increasingly bored and frustrated with each new installment I read. They are all the same: someone has been hurt in the past and they don't believe in love but are ok with friends with benefits, but then they fall in love but something happens to pull them apart but it all works out in the end. Even the sex is boring.
And this book I was really looking forward to: Molly's big secret. Why was she running... spoiler alert, it was not 22 years of running worthy, and she annoyed the heck out of me. And how can someone who moves every few months get such great jobs when she is just going to leave again?
