Shazam-non stop action. I really could not put it down. Todd and Viola, so many things go wrong. They are the bravest characters, so young and unseasoned they keep trying falling and getting back up. This place is not what they had dreamed of. It is full of cowards, back stabbers, and liars. Who do they trust, which side is t he right one ? Many choices are made many are wrong, but they never fail each other. Ends with a cliffhanger.

Seriously. Awesome. Being a series, you kind of think you know what's going on and you know the characters and can predict what their choices will be and how they will respond to whatever is thrown at them. You think you know how they are going to move the plot along. But in this book, you don't know. It's so different from the first one with new struggles and confusion that the characters take you by surprise. They are constantly faced with decisions that will completely change their life and well being and that of others they both love and hate no matter what direction they choose. Todd becomes a new person--a man--who is trying to forget who he was while at the same time desperately trying to hold on. Separated, you can see how much Todd and Viola need each other, but you see how strong they can be on their own, in the face of their enemies. There is tremendous growth with their relationship as they discover just how much one means to the other. Agh! Loooooove it!!!

The second book was more about human issues. What is evil? Who is worse? I really liked that Davy became someone you liked- even more than Todd. Mostly the noise was less of a focus and the Moral problems the greater focus. I sometimes got annoyed that there was such focus on moral and human problems, although I think it was nice that neither of Viola’s side(Coyle) or Todd’s (Prentiss) was a perfect choice. It felt really real. I still really love the series!

Earlier review: Read these when I was 15 and they are so great, so cruel, so original. The characters are great and the world is magnificent, one of my favorite book series. Everyone should read them! I'm looking forward to rereading them soon!

It’s not that you should never love something so much it can control you.
It’s that you need to love something that much so you can never be controlled.

ok so i really enjoyed this book. basically my only complaint was that it suffered from 2nd book syndrome and thus could have probably been cut down quite a few pages in the middle. other than that, it was very enjoyable, and i thought the character development was realistic for the circumstances. i also thought the heavy topics were handled pretty well. the last few chapters in particular were spectacular, even if they themselves have issues.
(major spoiler)
Spoilerokay am i the only one who thought that the author did a pretty good job of almost-redeeming davy? i didnt cry or anything when he died but i did feel very bad for him lol. the fact that he wanted to have todd be his brother and viola his sister was very pain-inducing for me specifically. tbh his death brought a little memories back of "todd?" from the first book

overall im excited to read the last book!
