This was...not the best. Particularly as a librarian. I would recommend a lot of her other books before this one.

Requires a healthy suspension of disbelief and rolling with some strong insta-love but I still thoroughly enjoyed this fun and steamy read. Exactly what I was hoping for.

Probably 2.5. Decently structured, solid language and decent characterization. Dade’s books are pretty unusual (for me), and I have enjoyed or at least appreciated her more recent work. This one was not really my jam, as it couldn’t decide if it was smut or an emotional read. Some of it spliced well together, but like Grant’s character, it still felt spliced. I found myself skimming through a lot of the more explicit stuff because it just seemed…unrealistic maybe? Also a little much and a little overwhelming from a percentage of the story perspective. Gratuitous use of the p word, which just irks me.

i really liked both the Angie and Grant. their honesty with each other was great. that's probably why it annoyed me greatly when they hid stuff from each other or ASSumed things without first asking the other to clarify.

can't wait to read the rest! i recommend for those who like short, funny romances with VERY steamy sex scenes set in a small town.

Very few things constitute a 'must read' for me. In order for a book to find itself on that list it has to include either Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hiddleston or books about librarians. This falls into the latter.

Angie Burrowes is the library manager in a self-described small town who is constantly coming to blows with administration. She's a standout librarian and hard worker, but her love of pushing the envelope gets her in hot water with her questionable romance and erotic fiction contests and displays. After a terrible day at work where she's told to revamp or she's fired, she ends up meeting Grant Peterson. They have a really odd meet cute that somehow works, and end up spending an insanely passionate night together complete with lots of sex and great dialogue.

Everything seems peachy keen until Angie arrives at a library manager meeting the next morning, only to discover that Grant is her new boss.

The first third of the book is what sells this whole story. Grant and Angie have great chemistry together and their meet cute is very fun. After that, the last two thirds of the book are a little basic and go exactly where you expect them to, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The sex is pretty well written and I enjoyed that Angie smart and confident, tall and curvy. Grant is portrayed as tall and handsome, albeit a bit reserved and unsure of himself. I weirdly imagined him as a slightly buffer Tom Hiddleston. Maybe that's why I enjoyed this book.

It's a rom com. There's family drama, questions of if they can fall in love this fast, and Grant becoming an idiot and going alpha male for a hot second. The biggest problem I had with this book is I'm a librarian, and I don't know a small town library in America that would be allowed to have it's own Erotic Fiction Reading Room but whatever. Also there's a pretty hot sex scene that takes place IN THE WORKROOM of the library. Like, I get it. When my boyfriend comes to visit there's nothing I want to do but take a quick ride to the bone zone but not in the damn room where all my co-workers work. Also what small town library has a super popular branch (as Angie's is described as) that doesn't have any security cameras? Y'all are lucky you didn't get caught banging on candid camera but y'know. It's a romance novel. You forgive this stuff.

Overall this was fun, even setting aside a slightly slow third act. I probably liked it more because I'm a librarian and this is one of the few librarian romances I've read where the author actually accurately describes the job we do, but it's a sweet book. If you like sex and solid dialogue, check it out.

I read this very quickly, which means I enjoyed the writing. So why do I only give the three stars?

The book was recommended on a podcast by a male librarian. Being a librarian myself, that recommendation made me curious enough to go buy the ebook.

What I really enjoyed:

The main characters, their colleagues and their families were described so vividly that I really „got“ them from the start.
Angela‘s erotica displays and some of her other controversial ideas at the library were super funny.
There was also a lot of emphasis on why libraries are such wonderful places, which does warm my heart.
The hero is a sweet and kind person and he accepts or tries his best to accept Angela as the vibrant women she is.
The friends!
The difficult issues between the couple and between the main characters and their families were dealt with in a thoughtful and realistic way. Some of the conversations and internal dialogues felt important and inspiring to me.

What I did not like:
The sex at the workplace and the whole job situation - I understood the conflict, but just couldn’t get on board with it. Maybe it is a cultural thing that I did not entirely get.
In part it was such a fast read because I skipped all the sex scenes. I did not like them.
The lack of communication that lead to several of the conflicts was realistic, but I still hated it.
As others have already stated: sex in the story time room of a library is not sexy, but pretty disgusting. I work in a children’s section and I just .... gah.
Also I wanted some diversity in that book. Maybe I missed something?

The characters both constantly made such terrible decisions that I honestly could not root for them.

I wasn't expecting much when I went into this story, basically because of my reactions to the first book. Thankfully, this book was a lot longer than that first one, but it wasn't necessarily better.

I had a really hard time connecting with both of the main characters. Grant was too logical to be approachable and Angie was too flighty, in my opinion. However, I could see how they worked well as a couple. I just didn't like most of their relationship, especially the deception they employed to keep it, despite their professions of preferring honesty.

I liked how this continued on from the previous book, making it important to read that one first for full effect, even though this story focused on a different couple. All things considered, it's a good way to get into the mood for Valentine's Day.
