This is one of those books that seems to have a multitude of problems, but when it is all said and done I don't really care. It was just a fun read. While I do wish it would have been longer just so the relationships were better developed (Eliza and Jeremy seemed to just fall out of the sky, very random) and the scandals were a bit more sadistic, it was a super fast and fun read. Not my favorite, like I said it had many many issues(i'm just able to over look them), but still an enjoyable summer read which is exactly what I want at the moment.

This was a fun read. At first, I found myself not liking the book, but I slowly grew to love it.

Its weird because I normally hate books like this....

If you're ever in the mood for a light, fun book for the beach, then read this ASAP!

There is more than enough name-dropping in THE AU PAIRS to satisfy the cravings of any reader. However, this series by Melissa de la Cruz stands out from other, similar series because of its character development.

Eliza, Mara, and Jacqui are three girls who are going to be au pairs for a rich family’s four young children during their summer stay in the Hamptons. Eliza was once the NYC It girl, before her family lost their fortune and they had to relocate to (bleeech!) Buffalo. Therefore, this summer is her glorious return…only made not-so-glorious as she realizes she’s working class and struggles to hide her financial status from her old “friends.”

Mara is the small-town girl with big-town looks. She came to the Hamptons to actually work to save money for college and doesn’t realize until later that she’s totally Hamptons material. In the meantime, Mara struggles to figure out her relationship with her boyfriend, Jim, as well as deal with her feelings for her bosses’ son, the hot and nice Ryan.

Jacqui is a Brazilian bombshell who only came to the States to search for her true love, Luca, whom she met when he spent his spring break backpacking in South America. Jacqui finds him, all right, but he’s not the sweetheart he had been over spring break, and Jacqui seems to lose her purpose for being an au pair at all.

This is a really fun read, great for anyone who wonders about the summer lives of the rich and privileged. The characters aren’t exactly lovable, and even sweet, kind Mara becomes corrupted after ten weeks, but there are more than enough hot, sweet guys and shopping sprees to get lost in.

This is sort of a guilty pleasure sort of read, full of cute boys, shopping sprees, beaches, and sunshine. There is a story line and it is a bit fun to read, but really there is no value to the book. Definitely just something to flip through while on the beach.

This was a decent book about 3 girls from very different walks of life who are hired to work as au pairs for 4 kids from a wealthy family for the summer in the Hamptons. Eliza is the former rich girl who is having problems adjusting to life without a lot of money, Jacqui is the Brazilian girl who takes the job to search for a guy that she met while he was on vacation, and Mara is the middle-class, small town girl who wants to earn money for college. Obviously the realistic factor is pretty much nil: the girls are completely unqualified to be nannys, they party all the time, yet are never caught. I also got annoyed at the obscene amounts of money that the characters were described as spending (but that could also be due to my lack of a job right now). It was a cute, quick read that had a (if slightly forced) happy ending and I give it a B--.

I had to keep pretending these girls were 19/20 to get through this book. The amount of booze, sex, drugs, and hijinks were beyond my imagination when I was 16. If I were a parent, I would not allow my teen to read this.

That being said, it was an easy ok read. Meh. Could have been worse I suppose.

Loved this book. I'm so glad Jaqui stood up for herself, but I think Eliza still has a lot to learn as far as being humble is concerned. Mara really grew to be more self-confident and I'm really looking forward to book 2 to find out about Mara and Ryan + Eliza and Jeremy
