The only problem I have with Naomi is the art, I don't like it at all, that being said I enjoyed the issue, barely enjoyed it, but I still enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the next issues.

Naomi is a new series from DC Comics. I tried it on a whim, and I have to say I’m pretty glad I did. Okay, admittedly the pretty cover art and character design are what really drew me in, but what’s wrong with that?
Like all first issues with new characters, there’s a lot they have to establish here. I think they did a pretty solid job, on the whole. We understand a bit about the main character and what is driving her, while not knowing so much as to be bored with it. That’s an important balance since this series seems like it’s going to fall closer to the intriguing line than normal.
I loved the artwork and character design for this series. At least, so far I have. Naomi looks fantastic. Her friends look fantastic as well. I love the used of the multiple box panels (think the Brady Bunch) to show multiple characters’ reactions to the same scene/event. It was well done.

Nothing cool ever happens in town until superman makes a heroic appearance. It took 17 seconds. 17 seconds of superman fighting to protect civilians. Everyone is talking about it. EVERYONE. And of course Naomi missed the whole thing. But, it turns out this wasn't the first time and for some reason no one is talking about what happened in the past.

The first issue really captured my attention. It's not the most original concept, but the mystery is compelling enough to want to continue on to the next issue. This story is giving me Wicked and Divine vibes because we have a fangirl protagonist obsessed with superhero gods and society retelling the narrative through social media despite the story not reaching national headlines. After all, this is just one of many stories.

We get a mystery of "urban legends" that Naomi seeks to unravel and beautiful art. There are moments where we get time lapse panels as if the artist keeps reminding us of the missed time and moments Naomi is obessing over. In turn as readers we also get that feeling of missed moments and missing pieces of the past that contribute to the mystery. I can see why this story is getting a lot of hype and I think everyone should give it a try.

This is a rare #1 that has me satisfied with the introduction we have been given and excited about the series to follow. And nice to see a superhero-related comic that isn't all superhero action from cover to cover: this one looks like it will be an interesting story with heart!

Set on the edge of the DCU, an everywhere town collectively fangirls over the appearance of Superman doing Superman stuff. For our title character, maybe, maybe it points to something more?

Under Bendis and Campbell, I think this is going to be a special.

First, let's also give credit to Bendis AND David Walker for their work on this! They did an amazing job introducing a new character to the DC main universe especially when that can be tricky.

It's always a little difficult rating single issues because they don't contain much content. Naomi is a product of Wonder Comics which is an imprint of DC. This imprint was established to create new characters and revive old characters. Of course, this is a tricky thing to do especially when you're dealing avid comic readers. Nevertheless, I think Bendis and Walker did a great job with this. Readers are introduced to Naomi through a sighting of Superman in her hometown. Of course, this stirs up feelings within the residents as well as Naomi. Contemplating her background as an adopted orphan, Naomi begins to search for her origins. There is word spreading throughout town that there was a superhero/being that appeared before Superman. Naomi hunts to figure out who this individual is and it ends on a cliffhanger. There were some interesting references in this issue (the new 52 included). I did get a little bored with the "obsession" with Superman. It came off a little repetitive. The artwork was PHENOMENAL. Campbell and Lupacchino showed out with the attention to detail and the realistic depictions of characters. The frames that included close ups were breathtakingly beautiful. If you haven't heard of Naomi, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

What a promising start! Now let's get into what was good and bad...

The good aspects of this issue:
- Fantastic art. (As always) Check this out:
- Interesting and unique characters that all looked and sounded different.
- REPRESENTATION. The main character is a black girl. And yes not every girl is stick thin with huge breasts. This issue is a major win for representation.
- A cute little 52 reference:
- Naomi is very interesting. She's not perfect. She goes to therapy. She has issues. She's kinda obsessed with Superman. She is very curious. You don't know everything about her but she is powerful, the complete driving force of this comic and that is very intriguing.
- The awesome ending and the mystery! I can't wait to see where this is going to go. It’s either going to be very good or extremely disappointing.

The bad aspects of this issue:
- Too much dialogue. There was sooo much talking all clumped together in scenes. It was too much and should've been broken up more.
- A bit repetitive. Everyone constantly talking about Superman for the whole issue when he was there for only 5 seconds. I suppose that was the point, the driving force for Naomi to start asking questions about the previous superhero who came to town, but that didn't stop it from feeling a little bit tired and old the way they kept repeating his name.

In my opinion, this issue really was Bendis' better work compared to [b:Young Justice (2019-) #1|43130288|Young Justice (2019-) #1|Brian Michael Bendis|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1546775023s/43130288.jpg|66931262]. Check out my review for Young Justice issue #1.

DC Comics came out with a new comic and it caught my attention so I decided to check it out.

Naomi is just a normal girl living in a small quiet town until one day Superman shows up and has a fight in the middle of town. Naomi thinks thats pretty weird and starts to investigate when rumors swirl about something like this happening before to their little city.

This was a thoughtful character driven story and the illustrations were top notch. The next issue is a must buy for me. I’m looking forward to seeing where this mystery goes.

An amazing start! I don't read DC comics usually, but I saw some panels from this online and the art was so gorgeous I just had to pick it up. And I absolutely don't regret it!

Superman's arrival (or, well, dropping by) in Naomi's small town creates exactly the reaction you'd expect – full-blown excitement in every single resident, and despair in every resident who missed the chance seventeen seconds he spent in their town. But his arrival drags up a secret from the tiny town's past, and it's somehow linked to Naomi's past mysterious past.

This issue is an intriguing start to a brand-new series, with an amazing new character who grabbed my interest immediately. Naomi, as a character, is fleshed out well. She has depth, and emotions (which are explored well!), and relationships with the many people in her town. Plus, her background and family are just so shrouded in mystery, and the issue ends on such a cliffhanger that I just want to know more!!! I really can't wait for the next issue... a month's wait is just too much.

The town and its residents also feel very real. The creators mentioned that they put work into "establishing a strong sense of place", and it shows.

I can't talk too much about everything I loved in this without spoiling it, so my review will have to remain vague, but just know that this is an amazing and easy read and is ABSOLUTELY worth your time. (The only reason this doesn't have five stars is because I'm scared the quality might drop in future, and also because this is just setting up the rest of the series, and I don't want to give it five out of anticipation. But it is BRILLIANT!) The writers have also promised that the rest of the series will remain as show-stopping as this issue, and set up a new path for the DC universe, so that's exciting too!

Also, hats off to the artists and Naomi's creator. Her design is amazing – I ADORE her hair! Those little gold clasps are everything – and her fashion is so cool. I mean, that cropped bomber? Hello? Naomi's best friend Annabelle looks amazing too.

This review probably has more words than the comic itself, but it is absolutely worth my effort and raving. It's great! Do yourself a favour and read NAOMI right now!
