Naomi (2019-) #1 by Brian Michael Bendis, David F. Walker, Jamal Campbell, Emanuela Lupacchino

4.0

Naomi is a new series from DC Comics. I tried it on a whim, and I have to say I’m pretty glad I did. Okay, admittedly the pretty cover art and character design are what really drew me in, but what’s wrong with that?
Like all first issues with new characters, there’s a lot they have to establish here. I think they did a pretty solid job, on the whole. We understand a bit about the main character and what is driving her, while not knowing so much as to be bored with it. That’s an important balance since this series seems like it’s going to fall closer to the intriguing line than normal.
I loved the artwork and character design for this series. At least, so far I have. Naomi looks fantastic. Her friends look fantastic as well. I love the used of the multiple box panels (think the Brady Bunch) to show multiple characters’ reactions to the same scene/event. It was well done.
