the storytelling was SO fairytale… the pitch was perfect there; however, i almost think it was to the book’s detriment because never once was i invested in the lives or actions of these characters—they were an arm’s length away. then, there was so much focus on there being lore, yet… where was the expansion of it? it was a lot of talking instead of showing and it didn’t help that the major reveal (and the minor ones) were pretty predictable.

i did like the pacing though and how the plot unfolded, even with the slow burn. it’s just a shame that i was left with wanting more because the prose was truly terrific—so much potential wasted, i almost wonder if we could’ve benefited from an extra 100 pages since it’s a standalone.

This reminds me strongly of the dark tide. The book had a lovely system of magic and surroundings and characters that were original and that you cared about. Most of the plot I guessed at or foresaw but that didn't make it any less beautiful. I even cried at the end. A mapmaker, a gravedigger and a undead goat, how more original could a story be? I loved it and I am considering if I want to read it again.

High 4 — Struggled a bit in the middle and with getting some details to click together on the way but I still really enjoyed this one and it’ll probably be a recurring Autumn re-read :)

This is amazing !!! Zombies usually give me night terrors but this doesn’t. This is heart warming and somehow cozy and depicts chronic pain so well. One of my favorite books. And the GOAT!

Velšské pohádky, prostředí divoké přírody a nebezpečných hor. Do toho ožívají mrtvolky.

Od Kostischrán jsem dostala přesně to, co jsem čekala - rychle ubíhající příběh odehrávající se ve skvostném prostředí. Navíc, hororové prvky byly skvělou přidanou hodnotou a do sychravého počasí listopadových dnů mi moc sedla

I love, absolutely love, the way Emily tells a story. The moments of perspective, the way in which Povs switch and the moments she chooses to keep it interesting, the insights she gives and the way she leads you along. I can't explain how much Emily's writing is for me, and I thank her for her stories. I loved this book. The subtle building of relationship to romance, the intriguing plot and endearing characters, I enjoyed it from beginning to end. I also gave The Drowned Woods 5 stars. I eat up her books, it's a yes from me.
