I really liked this! One of my favorite 2023 releases so far. Really well written with great chemistry and pacing. I was lost in the story from the start and I didn't want to put it down.

Jay and Tag start off on the wrong foot when they meet and become sort of "arch rivals". Their class difference is a big reason why both of these guys are constantly putting their feet in their mouths and offending each other. They were both kind of asses to each other but I could see where they were both coming from.

I loved seeing them work together and gain mutual respect for each other. Finally they start seeing where they've misjudged the other and their work and personal relationships blossom. The sparks from their hate/rivalry transitioned nicely into sexual chemistry. The way they cared for each other and always had each other's back was really sweet.

[I received a digital arc for an honest review]

Best Supporting Actor by Joanna Chambers and Sally Malcolm is the third and final book in the Creative Types series. Tag O’Rourke has been working for years to break into the acting scene and things are finally looking up. He’s been cast in a supporting role in a TV pilot that will hopefully be picked up and he has been cast in a new play. He’s thrilled with his upcoming role in the play but is concerned about his stage partner, Jay Warren. Tag and Jay got off on the wrong foot a few different times but both are looking for this play to help their careers. As the two get closer during rehearsals and beyond, Tag and Jay find themselves questioning if there’s more than just stage chemistry.

Tag O’Rourke and Jay Warren are characters that I was immediately enchanted by because they were opposite but not in many ways. Both are driven actors who are striving for success even if they come from drastically different backgrounds. It’s fun to watch the two compete at first when they don’t know each other and are reacting back on misconceptions and biases. Jay broke my heart because beneath his shiny TV actor exterior, he is truly just a man who feels deeply and is looking for a partner to care for and to care for him. He’s been burned in the past and struggles to allow Tag past his walls. Tag is someone who puts on a smiley face even if it’s all for show. He struggles with the weight of his familial expectations and his dreams. Jay just wants to lighten the weight on his shoulders and Tag is fearful to accept the help. The intimacy between the two goes so far beyond just sexual encounters and that is one of my favorite things to read.

Jay, without really trying, just by being himself, had won Tag over.

I adore this series because the characters feel so real and flawed. Both Jay and Tag each have dramatic moments and say things they regret. Who hasn’t had that experience? It makes the story feel more believable and endears you to the characters so much more. I loved the way the story was broken up into acts where the reader was given warning that time had moved but also keeping with the evolution of Jay and Tag’s relationship.

5 stars for Tag and Jay exploring their stage chemistry behind closed doors.

After a brief internal debate, I've rated Best Supporting Actor four stars (rounded up from 3.5). While I liked both Jay and Tag and appreciated their perspectives, it was Jay and his challenges who won my heart. His vulnerability and fear were heartbreaking, and I really loved it when Tag recognized these elements and worked to support him — the title was fantastic in capturing the the essence of the book.

I’m having such a hard time to rate this book. It is clearly a five star read to me! It’s emotional, it has a great plot, it’s interesting, it has high stakes, it is a setting that I absolutely love, it has many many great characters that don’t feel flat at all.
Bur the main characters, they really did a number on me. Of course they feel real and flawed and just overall great, but some of the things both Tag and Jay say are so not okay. I felt like after their one night stand, there should have been more of an apology and conversation about what happened and what triggered Tag to say such downright awful things to Jay. I was really shocked when I read the words. Later on when the stakes are really high and they have a hotheaded argument, I was able to understand why they both said such vile words to the other, but at the same time they were talking to the other and not WITH each other and it drove me crazy. Once again that whole situation wasn’t discussed enough afterwards in a way where I would have felt comfortable. There needed to be more apologizing and understanding the other.
Otherwise I can only say that this book is perfect. It was perfect to end this series here on such a banger, and for someone who was a theatre kid at school and so desperately wanted to become an actor but didn’t get to because it truly is a business of nepotism - this really felt extra special to me. I adore this series so much. And this one was most certainly my highlight. So I think I can overlook the flaws in the main characters and give it the five stars it really deserves
