This is an enjoyable read about how humans may evolve in the near future. Includes a nice primer, glossary, and reading list on the relevant dna science. Let me know if you want to swap for it.

A good sequel to Darwin's Radio, not QUITE as good as the radio but still very interesting.

Really interesting. Not a quick page turner, but it puts forward some very thought provoking points. Definitely worth a read, and one of those books that can actually be brought up in conversation about something other than the book itself.

A re-read. And a bit different than book one. Way more focused on the next generation. And the author makes a bunch of leaps which science certainly hasn't supported at this point. But interesting possibilities. It does get lost in the weeds in multiple directions. But readable. And imaginative extrapolations aren't a bad thing. But not always believable. Certainly got a little lost. 3.5 of 5.

Not quite as good as its precursor. Again, brought up some interesting ethical issues with modern day relevance. Again, seemed more like two books in one, but this time the first half was the exciting part. Ending felt somewhat anticlimatic. You could tell Bear was trying to tie all the ends together but he never really succeeds in bringing together all the main characters.

This book takes everything from the first book and ..... completely squanders it. I dunno what Bear was thinking. This book is a mess. It kind of feels like 3 novellas published together, and perhaps that is what the problem is. It just feels structurally off. There's a bunch of set up with no real development, and then a bunch of abrupt payoff. It was a very frustrating read.

To my mind not quite as satisfying a read as the first volume, it does however present an excellent rendition of what the business and politics of science is like, especially in the public realm, as well as the policy and authoritarian responses to any threat to the status quo. If you've read Darwin's Radio, you will likely have already read this too. But if not, give it a whirl. A hard science fiction spin on things that we need to be concerned about in the near future? Maybe.
