This book takes everything from the first book and ..... completely squanders it. I dunno what Bear was thinking. This book is a mess. It kind of feels like 3 novellas published together, and perhaps that is what the problem is. It just feels structurally off. There's a bunch of set up with no real development, and then a bunch of abrupt payoff. It was a very frustrating read.
