This book doesn't really offer anything special or noteworthy. To be honest, it was kind of boring and even frustrating at times. None of the characters are particularly likable and neither did I care much about their relationships with one another.

The two romantic leads, Hazel and Crew, have known each other since they were kids, and they were apparently very close, until Crew just randomly decided to not talk to her for four years. Does he have a good reason for this which will be revealed later? Nope. He just one day decided to 'ghost' her: His reasoning is that he just felt like he had better things to do. Oooookay, not a great start to a romantic love story if you ask me.
Which follows is a week in Germany in which these two apparently fall madly in love, ready to risk it all for each other. Lovely. Great. I don't care. Their trip was boring and I didn't see their connection. I feel like the only reason they even got together is because they are both freaking obsessed with Crew's grandfather. I swear to God, that man got on my damn nerves. He was incredibly manipulative. Therefore none of the many scenes regarding him resulted in an (undoubtedly intended) emotional reaction, if anything it just led to one of my far too frequent eye rolls.
Oh, and if my annoyance towards the grandfather wasn't enough, Hazel and Crew got on my nerves plenty of times as well. Their communication was so bad, and they, especially Hazel, were so goddamn insecure all the time. I wanted to scream: “Just talk to each other! Just be clear about what you want and have trust in each other. Stop with all the angst. Jeez.” Unfortunately, though, one cannot scream at fictional characters. Or well, you can try, but it's not going to do anything. So, of course, they did not get better at their communication, and a lot of insecurities and crying by our so called bad-ass female lead, Hazel, came out of it as a result. Ugh.

I am kind of disappointed with this author when it comes to this book. I expect humour from her. I expect lovable characters that I end up really rooting for. I expect my heart to flutter at an adorable and swoon-worthy romance. But nope, she apparently lost all of her usual writing skills this time around and produced something that makes me question if the amazing series I read by her before was a one-time thing and if maybe I shouldn't bother reading anything by her again. Because seriously, this was so bland. So incredibly bland.

The Romantic Pact
Kings of Football
By: Meghan Quinn
Narrated by: Tim Paige, Kelsey Navarro

Meghan Quinn is a go to listen for me. She writes with humor and passion, each story original. There is something about this one in particular that makes me it my favorite. When Pops died, Crew was lost. His grandfather was everything to him and now life's decisions and dreams are all being questioned. But his grandfather left him something to help him. Sending him on an adventure through Germany, and who better to be chosen to go with him than Hazel. He has known her forever, and their trek taken by the letters from his grandfather open new ways of thinking, with sights and experiences they never would have had. But why? Take this journey with Crew and Hazel. It's a blast! Quinn gives us a fantastic vacation and the wisdom of a man who has lived his best life. I love how these two learn and grow and realize what life is all about. It's a fun, humorous, sensual and features the best Grandfather ever!

I can't say enough good things about narration of this book. This couple has so much fun, but has ups and downs too. The narration of Kelsey Navarro and Tim Paige is spot on. Each has spot on comedic timing, and builds on their characters as they grow and change. I love this team, enjoy them each time they narrate together and this one is especially amazing.

Crew, yes!

I really loved and enjoyed Crew’s story. It was a bit different from what I had imagined, but in the best way possible. I loved his relationships with people he loves. Hutton cracked me up! If he doesn’t already, he deserves his own book. Crew is at that time in his life where he needs to decide between living life the way he thinks people expect him to or to live a life he is passionate about. This is so relatable to everyone and I am so happy that that was a big part of this story.

Crew and Hazel KIND OF reminded me of River and Anastasia in the sense that they were always fated to be together like River and Anastasia were.

I loved Hazel in the beginning of the book. But about 85% in, she lost me. It was frustrating to see how stubborn she was. Crew was stubborn, but he still tried. She gave up multiple times before giving them a real shot. BUT I GET IT. I do. But I could only put up with it for so long. When she finally came to her senses, I forgave her for being ridiculous lol

What docked a star and kept this from being a 5 star read for me was the exchanges between River, Hollis, and Crew. River’s responses didn’t feel like what he would say compared to the first book. And I wish there were more interaction between the three of them. With all the troubles that Crew was experiencing, I was hoping that when he reached out to River and Hollis, River would reply with his three things for River. Maybe I am thinking too hard about it...

Nevertheless, this was a great read and definitely recommend it and this series. Now, on to The Relationship Pact...

Seemed like it was a slow burn. Took them a while to finally get together. They weren’t sure about what the future will hold but in the long run they come to their senses.

Some pacts are made to be broken

Can I just say I feel like such an idiot! OMG, I didn't even realize who Crew's parents were...Easter Egg! It's a whole new level of awesomeness for Meghan Quinn fans. (For newbies, check out The Mother Road. It will make you laugh so hard you pee. It's also incredible in audio, just saying!)

I am floating in the clouds I am so happy. Quinn gives us another couple to love, want to shake, and swoon over. Crew and his Hazel are perfect for each other. Their trip is incredible and made me so jealous (and not just because I was supposed to tour some of those locations this past summer!) It's delightful and absolutely inspiring. (Also makes me want to hire Quinn to plan my honeymoon. How much Meghan?)

The Romantic Pact is a second chance with a few firsts, competitive Dots, and some very serious beverage consumption.  It also has some amazing besties with a ridiculous camaraderie and ride or die spirits. Please take all your souvenirs seriously, never skip The Great, try all the foods, and love the experiences not the destination.

Excuse me while I try to plan a similar trip to Germany now!

ahh all the feels!

What a great second book in a trilogy of stand- alones! 4.5 stars rounded up.

I love Hazel and Crews characters but Pops completely stole the show in this story. I cried, I laughed, and I loved traveling Germany with this sweet couple and their busybody grandfather and if anyone in my family wants to send me on a trip, make me an amazing itinerary with heartfelt notes guiding me, I’m here for it.

This is my first book by Megan Quinn and without a doubt I’ll be reading more of her work!
