ahh all the feels!

What a great second book in a trilogy of stand- alones! 4.5 stars rounded up.

I love Hazel and Crews characters but Pops completely stole the show in this story. I cried, I laughed, and I loved traveling Germany with this sweet couple and their busybody grandfather and if anyone in my family wants to send me on a trip, make me an amazing itinerary with heartfelt notes guiding me, I’m here for it.

This is my first book by Megan Quinn and without a doubt I’ll be reading more of her work!

The Romantic Pact is the second book I have read in The Kings of Football series and I’m officially convinced that these authors have created a magnificent world that’s utterly enthralling.

I’m not even sure where to begin with The Romantic Pact, this isn’t a book you read this is a book you fall into, consuming you, on quest full of two souls reconnecting, grief, learning to cope, and most important finding your happiness.

All it took was the first chapter to become completely immersed in this world. Crew is a football star at Braxton college at home for the winter break and after an incredibly rough year he’s not himself. His pain was palpable although I hadn’t had a chance to fall in love with him I was emotionally invested at that point. Hazel is an absolute whirlwind, sassy with no filter which made me instantly love her.

Hazel and Crew haven’t seen each other for a while but with little information they are on a trip together because of a man who loved them both and knew what they needed, even when they didn’t. They are both dealing with a tornado of emotions that had me breathless, my heart ached as they tried to understand the grief they were drowning in.

The connection between Crew and Hazel was fiery and soulful they were meant to find each other again.

Crew and Hazel’s story is unputdownable. This is an exquisite blend of burning chemistry, soul-stirring emotions, witty banter, laugh out loud moments, steam, and an inspiring amount of meaningful lessons to carry with you long after you finish.

"My heart knows you’re connected at the soul."

The Mother Road is one of or is my favorite Meghan Quinn books and The Romantic Pact had all the same great vibes flowing through Crew and Hazel's story. It is a STANDOUT in the standalone Kings of Football series, and while I love them all, this one turned out the be my favorite. It's sweet, romantic, and sexy reconnecting and friendship to lovers while also taking you on a journey with heart tugging emotions that will have you smiling and laughing and crying. Plus it has a holiday twist if you're looking for a great Christmas time read.

Beautiful and Sweet

This was the perfect book to read at Christmas time! A beautiful friends to lovers story with a heavy dose of Christmas magic. Crew and Hazel have both lost a man so incredibly important to them. Crew's Pops, who was also a surrogate grandfather to Hazel. As a last goodbye, Pops planned a trip for Crew and Hazel to travel across Germany together over Christmas. If you don't desperately want to recreate their journey by the end of their trip, there's something wrong with you! It's such an emotional rollercoaster as they acknowledge the love they have for one another while processing their grief and come to terms with how their lives are changing. Beautifully written coming of age story, as well as a love story.

Hazel and Crew's story was both funny and emotional. It definitely made me want to travel through Germany at Christmas. Be prepared to laugh one minute and cry the next. This book was a great Christmas read and despite it being an emotional story, it was a great one to read. I adore Meghan Quinn's writing and enjoyed this book.

This is a lovely story about loss and love - and I say it in that fashion because without the loss of Pops Crew and Hazel would never be able to find love. However - that is not before Pops makes them both reconnect on a trip to Germany to follow a letters and maps for them to understand exactly what should be a priority in life. This storyline while heart wrenching at times turns into a true and honest portrayal of what everyone should be thinking about with the way the world is today. Not every path you go on will be the one that puts you on a path to greatness. Completely enjoyable and hard to put down. LOVE this series.

Another epic story by Meghan Quinn! The travel aspect in this is A1- especially since we can’t do anything with COVID. What a beautiful escape! Lost my mind a little when I realized Crew was porter and Marleys son. Such a beautiful story and a testament of true love. Second chance romance and best friend trope. Love it!

After the death of his grandfather, known as "Pops," Crew Smith can't seem to move on from his grief. His final college football season suffers as do his grades. When he comes home for winter break, Crew finds that Pops has left him instructions he is to follow that include a trip to Germany with a mysterious traveling companion. His childhood friend, Hazel, turns out to be the companion, and they set off together, directed by a series of letters, packages, and reservations all planned out by Pops prior to his death. The journey leads Hazel and Crew to more than just places on a map.

The Romantic Pact is not a sports story, as the cover would suggest, but is a road trip romance through idyllic Germany at Christmas time. Also, serious topics are raised including loss and grief that the characters must face as well as their complicated feelings for each other. Through the majority of the story, the reader experiences the sights, sounds, and tastes of Germany in great detail with Crew and Hazel. The real conflict comes near the end of the book when the trip is over, making the pacing feel a bit uneven. Overall, The Romantic Pact has moments of fun and exploration grounded in the real life problems the characters must face. 3 1/2 stars

This is a slow-burn friends-to-lovers, boy/girl-next door romance and an adorable Christmas love story with a holiday theme. Crew spent a lot of time on his grandparent’s farm as a child and Hazel, the girl next door, was his best friend for years. The visits came fewer and farther between as football became his life and his relationship with Hazel has been pretty much non-existent for the last few years after an awkward kiss. She grew up to work on the farm and eventually run it. Crew’s grandpa (Pops) arranged a lovely road trip through Germany at Christmastime for them, as one final gift to two of the people he loved most in the world.

The old friends are a bit nervous at first but quickly become comfortable again and it soon becomes apparent that there was an ulterior motive to the trip. The trip is a family tradition of sorts for young couples in love and Pops apparently saw something that Hazel and Crew didn’t – or maybe something they were just afraid to admit. They get closer than ever and soon can’t resist more but reality comes crashing down when the trip ends. They live far apart and both have big decisions to make about their future. Crew’s lifelong dream has been to play football but is that really what he wants? He’s no longer sure, because football hasn’t meant as much to him lately. This is a decision he was already struggling with but it just gets harder now that he’s mired in grief over losing Pops and wondering if there’s a future with Hazel.

For her part, Hazel can’t imagine life away from the farm. It’s all she knows and all she wants to know but she needs a business plan and help, along with the consensus of Crew and his parents. Pops left them as part owners but selling or keeping the farm will be a joint decision. She’s determined to hold onto it, but at what price?

I loved Hazel immediately. She’s outspoken, fun and hilarious. Crew is also a very likeable character and they it together very well. I enjoyed the interaction Crew has with his best friends, the stars of the other books in the trilogy. Quinn is fantastic with description throughout this story. She truly paints a beautiful picture of the gorgeous scenery and quaint places. This is my first book by her, but won’t be the last.
