Oh my goodness. What a creative joy to read. I even laughed out loud. It made me happy, nostalgic and think. It dealt with loss and depression in an interesting way. But, it worked so well. There were times it dragged a bit for me but not enough to quit. It always came back to a good rhythm. (This audio was also really fun to listen to. It's about time I found one.

One of the most perfect books I have read in a long time. The Dreamatics has the whimsy of The Phantom Tollbooth and the behind-the-scenes view of Inside Out, but still so much more. It felt like my favorite kind of light . . . The sun reflecting up off the small orange leaves that have fallen from the neighbor’s tree and cover the sidewalk. This book made me cry happy and sad tears but also made me smile, felt like a warm hug, and gave me hope. Thank you, Dear Author :)

This ended up leaning too much into what I've decided to call the "adorkable" side of whimsy for me to fully buy into emotionally. At times I really felt I'd rather see all of this from the outside, more of the real world Luna than her occasional word dumps via "the screening room" but also, at the same time, when the narrative broke that barrier it felt out of place.

Some of the mechanics of the dream world and their relation to the real world also often puzzled me-- I'm probably overthinking it, but it seems like there's a story where those connections COULD be more profound and more reflective of how your mind works.

Overall the experience left me feeling we'd never fully gotten into the themes and real emotions of the story.

I don't think, though, that my experience means that the target audience won't get something out of the message here, or enjoy the lush fantasy setting and funny characters (Winks being the real MVP). There's a good chance they will.

This felt like a book version of Inside Out with a very concrete application of how people (especially children) move through grief of a loved one (pet included). I particularly included how the story was told from Luna's “brain characters” directing her dreams, memories, and nightmares. This was a warm, enjoyable book that made me hug my pets a little bit harder and longer.

It WILL make you teary eyed, guaranteed.

All the vibes of Inside Out, set in the behind the scenes of your dreams that functions a lot like an episode of 30 Rock.

When Luna goes to sleep each night, her dreams are performed by a ragtag theatre troupe called The Dreamatics. After a terrible accident (her beloved dog Murph is hit by a truck), Luna's dream theatre is overrun by Coco and the Bad Dreams, and in real life Luna can't seem to remember any good times with Murph. It's up to the remaining few Dreamatics to help Luna remember Murph and dream sweet dreams again.

This book has so much heart. It addresses grief from multiple perspectives while not getting too bogged down in melancholy, but also manages to be wickedly funny and incredibly sweet. It had me crying on one page and laughing the next. Adults will get just as much out of this as kids, if not more. It has warmed my cold, not-a-pet-person heart.
