Agree with other reviewers that the book has a cisheterocentric focus and hones somewhat bizarrely in on sex addiction to the detriment of any substantive discussion on recovery. The first chapter or so offers a basis (albeit incomplete) for understanding the concept of covert incest. The rest is less useful unless you're looking for case studies.

definitely provides validation for survivors but it seemed to not really prioritize the next steps. validation is extremely important though & is a great first start

this book should abbbbsolutely be read with a grain of salt. so much of the information is now incorrect and outdated.

the text also takes a strange turn from centering covert incest to trying to deep dive into sexual addiction, and maintains only a weak teather to the topic of covert incest. difficult to get through some of the language usage and concepts surrounding sex addiction too.

lots of cringy gender generalizations and simplifications throughout.

overall, it's pretty poorly written, but im glad i read it. there arent many texts on the topic of covert incest, and it was helpful to read through some of the stories compiled here.

Very informative. Like others have said, it lacks any discussion on queer/non-heteronormative situations -- ex. assumes that a son cannot be made to be a surrogate spouse for a father, and that a daughter being a surrogate spouse for a mother means that it will inherently lack the sexual energy a father/daughter and mother/son covert incest pair would have. It's good for general information, but be ready to ignore the explicit gender binaries and just see what resonates with you and your childhood.
