This made me kinda want to watch basketball, which is just about the highest praise I could give it.

This is a graphic novel that I can easily put in the hands of the most reluctant of readers.
The story was inspirational, educational, and quite moving. I even got choked up at the end (and I don't usually cry in books).
The artwork was engaging, and I especially liked the color schemes for the historical sections. I appreciated the way the storyline unfolded - back story, historical elements about the school basketball program and the history of basketball, individual team member bios.
I couldn't help but connect to the characters in the story, and found myself rooting for them throughout the story.

Super adorable and informative. I absolutely love it and how the author breaks the fourth wall. Highly recommend!

I was so excited for a new graphic novel from Yang, then saw what it was about and felt wary. I should have known. Yang is capable, through his words and artistry, of bringing out a whole range of deep and relevant issues from a season of basketball. We get to know the players, as well as the backstory of basketball and of Catholic schools. We learn how racism and sexism affect the players and the game. This is extremely engaging and well-done.

Almost made me cry, in a good way. The conceit of the story being told as the author is thinking about telling it is a little disconcerting, but I didn't mind it too much.
