It's quite a simple story and feels more like a cozy mystery than a spy novel as the setting is rural England and it is about the murder of a servant who loves to snoop around. The story is too straight forward for my taste, especially when I am looking forward to a Ian Fleming type of story but getting a Hercule Poirot instead. Still, the romance between Leo and Page is quite sweet and the rest of the cast quite interesting. For those who like village cozies with a hint of romance, this maybe the book for you.

It took me until around the 50% mark to get invested, but then I finished the rest of the book in one sitting. James and Leo are cute, and I'm glad there is another story where I can follow them. I'm hoping I can become more attached to them as characters through another story.

A classic Agatha Christie-esque murder mystery. But with more gay sex.

The good thing about having the memory of a gnat is that you can re-read murder mysteries and have no idea who did it. I read Hither, Page a couple years ago and I loved it and because I also have the attention span of a gnat, I didn’t read the second book because I got distracted. I did, however, remember how much I loved Page and Sommers and I am happy to say that my five star rating held all the way through my reread.

My baby boy Sommers. He is a physician who is triggered by his own job and it affects his ability to care for his patients. It altered his career trajectory and he is still trying to figure out life and his new reality. It hit hard. I just wanted to wrap him in blankets and force feed him tea.

I loved every second of this series. I did not see the ending coming for either book. I highly highly highly recommend doing the audiobook if you are like me and read the last chapter of books before the rest of the book (yes, I’m a monster). I have no self-control and will absolutely spoil the ending for myself every time. Plus Joel Leslie narrates. Need I say more?

This was a little slow to get into for me, but I really enjoyed it! The gradual reveal of other queer characters aside from Leo and James was delightful, and as ever Cat Sebastian writes flirting so well. Y'all know by now that I enjoy reading all of Sebastian's works, and this book was no different. I'll be reading the second one soon!

Ultimately, a fun read that had just enough going on to keep it interesting but not too much if you want something a bit more on the low-stakes/cozyish side.

The cast of characters is a lot of fun to read about and reminds me a lot of British mystery/drama shows you would have found on PBS back in the 70s and 80s. I really liked both Leo and James (though I wasn’t sure about Leo in the beginning) and I hope they get to live out their simple, country life at some point. I appreciate that the book doesn’t shy away from heavier topics of PTSD and the struggles the queer community faced in that time period.

Overall, it was a fast, simple book that was entertaining with decent writing and good characters and a well-paced plot.

What if Agatha Christie, but gayer? That's exactly this book, a MM romance wrapped in a cozy mystery (if it's okay to call murder "cozy"). James is a country doctor trying to do good in the world to assuage his guilt for being part of the war machine. Leo is a spy who hasn't told the truth in so long he's not sure if he actually can. The wounded and skittish men are thrown together to solve 2 murders that take place in the quiet village.

There is virtually no steam in this book, but the feelings and tenderness between the MCs still packs a wallop. I loved their flirtations and interactions throughout and found myself cheering them on the whole way. The side characters are quirky and were a lot of fun to read. I can't wait to jump into the next book.
