Second in the Moses Lake series, this was a predictable mystery romance; but Lisa Wingate always makes things interesting.

Blue Moon Bay by Lisa Wingate
Moses Lakes, TX, Heather returns to her hometown, she's lived in the big cities as an architect.
She hopes to get her mother and uncles to sign off on the property but when she arrives she wonders who is the crook here, her relatives or her once boyfriend who is the banker, Blaine Underwood. She learns so much about her father's death and that leads to more questions.
Just when she gets answers more questions arise. When you think you know who is the culprit there are more surprises.
I received this book from National Library Service for my BARD (Braille Audio Reading Device).

The unravelling of a family mystery. Some sections of this story dragged until the end when all was revealed in a burst. It would have been nice to give the reader a few extra details pertaining to the mystery to build interest and keep attention. I didn't find Heather to be as bad as others have said in their reviews. Yes, she did jump to a lot of conclusions, but when your family leaves you in the dark about so much, how could you *not* jump to conclusions?! At times it felt like her family was purposefully trying to drive her crazy by not being open and honest. One quote that stuck with me... "We sometimes don't see God because we are so busy looking for something more complicated than frost on glass. If God could put that much effort into something that only lasts a few hours in this world, think about how much He pondered you." Something we should all remember!

Heather is a Seattle based architect who returns home to Moses Lake, Texas to help her family in the sale of their family farm and funeral home to a major food producing corporation. She is expecting to be there a day or two but things don't go as planned, and she is there longer. She feels her family is keeping things from her and she is correct, they are. Heather's father had died 16 years ago and the truth of his death was never talked about, and each family member is still keeping secrets from each other. The book bogs down in the middle and I wanted to hit Heather upside the head, ask questions, don't make assumptions. In the end she learns the truth about her father's death and the family members all open up about why they do not want to sell their property to the large corporation.

Part of a triology of books set in the same place, but basically unrelated.

Heather plans to shake the dust from her feet of the town she spent her senior year in thsnks to her parents. It has been sixteen years, but when an opportunity to sell the family property co,es along she pushes for it. Too bad her mpther doesn't agree.

This is enjoyable, but not my favorite Wingate book.

Second in the Moses Lake series, but about completely different characters. The characters from the first book were just briefly mentioned once, so these are not really books you have to read in order, or read every one to be able to enjoy. Which is good for me, since I was able to get books 1, 2 and 4 for free, so I'm going to skip #3 and read the fourth one sometime soon. Very enjoyable read.

I know that I have read previous work by Lisa Wingate but I can’t remember anything about them so I am reviewing this as a first time reader. It is #2 in a series but I am not familiar with the first installment.

Heather Hampton is set to shepherd the sale of her family’s Texas property to a secret broker offering a very good price for the land, a stone house, and a former residence/funeral home. When a last minute reluctance by her mother to sign threatens the sale, Heather rushes home to Moses Lake. Arriving home, she finds her flaky little brother making noises about taking over a family business and moving home. The mystery about the land sale and her family’s secrets is very predictable. The romance plot line centers on her renewed acquaintance with her high school crush.

I couldn’t really get very interested in the first half of this book, but I had an impression that Wingate might be worth some effort. The major problem was the main character, Heather. She is an architect with some admirable views on how her profession should practice. She is also selfish, judgmental, overbearing, and manipulative. Although she does exhibit some growth, it is too little too late. What really left an impression on me was Ruth, the old family housekeeper. Ruth’s story was the most interesting thing about the book (along with the dog Roger) and I wish there was a full book of Ruth’s story. Although this story line was engaging, I don’t expect to be returning to Moses Lake.

Blue Moon Bay by Lisa Wingate 384/380 pages
Moses Lake #2

Genre: Christian Fiction, Christian Romance, Inspirational, Contemporary Romance, Women's Fiction

Featuring: Texas, Seattle, Workaholics, Family Secrets, Family Dynamics, Death off camera, Cancer, Mennonites, WWII Stories

Rating as a movie: PG-13 for adult situations

My rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐

My thoughts: Pg 58 out 380 - Nice but slow.
Pg 63 - I'm starting to lose interest in this story.
Pg 97 - While Andrea and Mart showed up in a quote the pastor and Birdie showed up in the flesh, I'm still missing information.
Pg 135 Just in time [to watch The Amazing Race which was scheduled but never showed because of a Spurs game 😡]
Pg 176 - So busy I didn’t even log my pages yesterday. This was the point I knew I would have to finish this book.

It's going to be awhile before I read Firefly Island. This book was a bit too slow. There is a huge risk when a series switches characters and the the new ones aren't as likeable and it takes forever to get to know them. It was considering quitting this book atchapter 9 and very interested by the end of chapter 10. It took that many chapters to really get this book on a roll. There was was momentum in the first few chapters but it died in Moses Lake. The last few chapters had a lot going on so much it was hard to follow the action. I see a pattern with this series, unfortunately the romance was dead in the water in my opinion.

Recommend to others?: Maybe. I had to give the book 4 stars but it was almost a DNF.
