I had really high expectations for this book. I like the cover, which really has no impact on the book and I know you're not supposed to judge a book by its cover, but books with good covers make me more excited to read the book. Also, I thought the plot sounded cool. The description made it sound like Lucas is in a time loop, and usually books like this are written from his perspective and are about how he's trying to find a way to save Juliet before something terrible happens. Except, this time, it's written from the perspective of the person not in the time loop. What actually happened may or may not have been different, it was a little confusing but I sort of get it, I think.

My problem with this book was that I found Juliet really annoying. Which is definitely a problem when the book is written in first person. I feel like I don't know much about her, except basic facts. Everything was about Lucas, which makes sense, but it was so focused on him that it felt like there was literally nothing else to her life. Her entire life revolved around him and it felt like she didn't have her own personality at times. Also, there were some things she did that just didn't make sense.
SpoilerLike, she started randomly lying to everybody. Everybody meaning her mom, Val, and Rose because there's nobody else in her life. And like, why? She's not a compulsive liar. She generally doesn't lie. But then she just decides to start and she mentions it for like two sentences, moves on, and never brings it up again
.

Also, I really did not like Rose. I hate people like her. Even Juliet disagreed and disapproved of the things she was doing.
SpoilerLeading Dex on like that was just so mean and rude? And it's not like she's clueless about it, which would be a slightly different story. She knows he likes her and she keeps baiting him then laughing at him for falling for her. Like, why? He's pretty much the one character I didn't dislike in this book. And that whole thing with Jason? Okay, that wasn't completely her fault, but part of it was. He got her a super expensive necklace and she just decides to wear it everywhere, including in front of him? And he's proven to be super unstable, but then when she sees him in Aruba, she goes up to him and like flirts with him and hangs out with him, and then did she not expect anything to happen afterwards? And that move with Pete, I really just couldn't believe it. My favorite part of the book was when Dex drove Juliet home after mini golfing and he was ranting about how he was completely done with Rose because she was cruel and unfair and he deserved better. Which he definitely did
.

Lucas was the other main character, but since it's written so much from Juliet's perspective, everything about him seems too good. He seems great and I can't find any flaws in him, which sounds like a good thing, but it's not. Humans are flawed, and he should be too. She should love him despite the flaws, not be so in love that she's blind to them. Because of that, he seems too unrealistic. It's only after the major, major plot points occur and Juliet's thoughts change that I started seeing flaws, but they were also biased. So I feel like I couldn't get an accurate picture of who he was.

The other problem with the book was that the pacing was very inconsistent. There were times when it felt like things were going really fast, and others when it was going ridiculously slow. A lot of the time, she would say something like "we went out to this place for lunch. We saw this movie. We did this. We did that. And then two months later...". Those parts just felt very flat and distant. Almost robotic, I think. She could have just started a new chapter and said "a few months later.." and everything would have been fine. It's not like the short sentences really added anything to the story.

Anyway, overall, I just didn't really like it. There were a few interesting scenes, I guess, and I get why the last couple chapters were important even though they were kind of boring at that point, I was just scanning the book to get it over with. There were multiple times I considered just abandoning it, but I hate abandoning books, so I pushed through and now here we are... Finally done and able to move on.

This book was beautiful. I didn’t feel like the romance was rushed and I didn’t feel like it was completely unrealistic.
I loved all the characters. I think they were all perfectly well rounded and I actually cared about every single one of them.
I loved the story line. I love the rollercoaster it put me on. Even though I was so afraid of how it would end. However I couldn’t have asked for a better ending.

I’m so glad I finally read this book. 🖤

OVERALL IMPRESSION: From the moment I picked up this book and started reading, I was intrigued and had a hard time putting it down. I was completely sucked into the story and wanted to know what was going to happen next. I couldn't read it fast enough. As I started to actually understand what was I happening, I feel like it slowed down slightly, but only for a very small portion of the book. I was wondering what was going to happen at the end, and I was pleased with the way it turned out.

CHARACTERS: I liked both Juliet and Lucas. I felt they were good together and had great chemistry.

I did not like Juliet's best friend, Rosemary. I felt like she was acting the way that she thought she was supposed to act in order to be popular, like she was putting on a show.

COVER: This cover is one of my favorites of all time. It is gorgeous! I love the color scheme and the title font is perfect.

**I received an ARC of this book from Amazon Vine for my honest review.

This book was just not for me at all. I could see it working for others though.

The writing style was not for me. It was mostly in past tense and "broke the wall" a few times like the main character is writing to the reader. I didn't like the main character - who uses their toe to change the radio station in the car!? Her entire personality was that she laughed at everything... everything. A character laughed 36 times in these 80 pages, and about 80% of the time it was the main character...
I felt so uncomfortable about where the relationship was going. Juliet keeps talking about how she feels uncomfortable or unsafe with Lucas but then she does a 180 and says she wants to kiss him and hang out with him. It was so weird to flip between the two and then all of a sudden they are dating? I just wasn't a fan and understand I was not the audience for this book.

THAT ENDING. I NEED MORE!!!!!

From the summary I knew I would like this book. A few chapters in I knew I would love this book. The twist with how Lucas remembers his relationship with Juliet was interesting. I wish we could've spent a little more time with post high school Juliet.

If you're the kind that loves a good angsty story with a satisfying ending then this book is for you! This book took great pleasure in stomping on my heart time and time again from the very beginning yet still had me coming back for more!

This book was okay. And by okay I mean IT WAS JUST OKAY.
It wasn't the best book I've ever read. It wasn't the worst. I didn't find the main character easy to connect to and it was kind of boring.
(Minor minor spoilers here) she gets into a relationship really quick and I didn't really like them together.
Maybe someone else would have enjoyed it more, but it wasn't all that. It was fine. If you don't have anything else to read, give it a go.

6/10 would probably not recommend

I Remember You is a sweet read by Cathleen Davitt Bell. It starts out with a mystery - who is Lucas and how does he know so much about Juliet? She feels as if he sees right through her and he definitely knows more about her and her life than he should. He says he remembers her .... what does that mean? As Juliet tries to figure out what is going on, she finds herself in a race against time to figure out the truth.

Beautifully written, captivating and intriguing, I Remember You kept me turning pages to find out what would happen. I like the characters from the very first page.

First line: "I am writing this down so that I will remember."

Stars: 2.5

Let me start off by saying, or writing rather, that I am not entirely sure what just happened. It's almost like this novel had no point, because it went practically nowhere over a span of 300+ pages.

I am baffled at this point...the story is told in the eyes of Juliet, the main character, who is writing out the story of how she "remembers", just like Lucas told her to. However, it's really more about what Lucas remembers and Juliet's perspective telling it, but then all of a sudden Lucas "forgets" and we go through this painful process of making him remember again. Like seriously?

Then the ending has us right up to the future, roughly 13 years after the start of the novel. I don't want to give up what happens, however, I am frustrated with this ending for the simple fact that this is not a series or a potential series from what I can tell, and we are left with a rather large cliffhanger that leaves more questions unanswered than I would like.

I am not overly impressed with this novel at all. I was expecting something cute and fun to read, and although there are cute parts, that all gets twisted and destroyed, for me anyways, around the 200 page mark.

The characters all have their quirks but I never really felt connected to them. They also have all types of dramatic moments that occur sporadically throughout the novel, yet are really quite irrelevant to the actual story.

All in all, a rather disappointing read to start off the New Year!

I'm not even sure what to rate this book at this point. A lot of the time I read this book I spent in a love/hate relationship with it. And I still feel that way now. And I think that's as coherent of a review we'll be getting out of me for this one.
