I Remember You by Cathleen Davitt Bell

3.0

First line: "I am writing this down so that I will remember."

Stars: 2.5

Let me start off by saying, or writing rather, that I am not entirely sure what just happened. It's almost like this novel had no point, because it went practically nowhere over a span of 300+ pages.

I am baffled at this point...the story is told in the eyes of Juliet, the main character, who is writing out the story of how she "remembers", just like Lucas told her to. However, it's really more about what Lucas remembers and Juliet's perspective telling it, but then all of a sudden Lucas "forgets" and we go through this painful process of making him remember again. Like seriously?

Then the ending has us right up to the future, roughly 13 years after the start of the novel. I don't want to give up what happens, however, I am frustrated with this ending for the simple fact that this is not a series or a potential series from what I can tell, and we are left with a rather large cliffhanger that leaves more questions unanswered than I would like.

I am not overly impressed with this novel at all. I was expecting something cute and fun to read, and although there are cute parts, that all gets twisted and destroyed, for me anyways, around the 200 page mark.

The characters all have their quirks but I never really felt connected to them. They also have all types of dramatic moments that occur sporadically throughout the novel, yet are really quite irrelevant to the actual story.

All in all, a rather disappointing read to start off the New Year!
