The best part was the sloth reading the newspaper on an old-timey bicycle..:

3.5 stars if I could. A fun children's chapter book, my 6-year-old son enjoyed it.

I think the younger set will love the absurdity of this little book. Inspector Flytrap and his able (??) assistant Nina the Goat solve only BIG crimes on their skateboard. Sill, fun stuff.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a digital ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Loved the humor here, and the nods to other famous detectives and mysteries. We listened to this, which was delightful, but I'm sure we missed out on wonderful illustrations.

The first in the Inspector Flytrap series is a fun and quick read. The illustrations and repetitive structure of the stories make this ideal for a beginning chapter book reader. I feel confident that this will appeal to children who've enjoyed Tom and Cece's other books, though this is designed for a younger reader. It reminded me of The Trouble with Chickens for the combination of humor and mystery, though the short vignettes make it even easier to get into.

My favorite parts: the goat sidekick, Nina, who can make the same two words ("Big deal.") fit in any situation, how much it bothers him when people get his title wrong, and the teasers of mysteries that are deemed not a big enough deal.

On a quest to become the World's Greatest Detective, Inspector Flytrap is only taking on mysteries that are BIG DEALS. But wherever this potted plant and ravenously hungry sidekick go, chaos follows!

That was so... zany. I loved Bell's illustrations and snorted out loud at several absolutely ridiculous parts, but I really could have gone without Angleberger describing one character's voice as "crazy" and another "crying like a baby." I had to keep reminding myself that I am NOT the target audience for this book.
