Inspector Flytrap (Inspector Flytrap #1) by Tom Angleberger

3.0

The first in the Inspector Flytrap series is a fun and quick read. The illustrations and repetitive structure of the stories make this ideal for a beginning chapter book reader. I feel confident that this will appeal to children who've enjoyed Tom and Cece's other books, though this is designed for a younger reader. It reminded me of The Trouble with Chickens for the combination of humor and mystery, though the short vignettes make it even easier to get into.

My favorite parts: the goat sidekick, Nina, who can make the same two words ("Big deal.") fit in any situation, how much it bothers him when people get his title wrong, and the teasers of mysteries that are deemed not a big enough deal.
