Meh. There isn't much to this book but there doesn't need to be. It's super silly and goofy and the intended audience will love it. If it serves as a stepping stool to bigger and better things, especially for a reluctant reader, then i'm all for it. It isn't for me and I know that but there are plenty of high quality reads at this level that I actually enjoy reading, this just isn't one of them.

What the world needed which it never had seen before was a series of books about a mystery solving venus flytrap plant.
of course it did?
I mean what else would we need?
As idiotic and ridiculous as it sounds this is a very silly book and therefore it has a certain level of shall we say entertainment value.

Son enjoyed this book and we are enjoying the series. Sad that it’s only 3 books.

I was expecting a bit more from this. it's overly simple and young. I was expecting something along the lines of magic tree house or catwings, instead I got toot and puddle. which is cute, just not what it looks like. which is this book to a third. cute, but nothing there.

Weirdly appealing adventures of a flytrap plant detective and his goat assistant. Silly kid humor throughout, and some valuable lessons about observation and not eating everything.

I have to say the charm of these books wore out pretty quickly. We read them in reverse order and the same jokes got old. My son enjoyed all 3 of the books. It was cute - I wish there’d been a longer mystery plot line or some depth to the characters.

I wish this book had ended on a less heteronormative note, but it's Tom Angleberger and Cece Bell, so I really can't complain. It's pretty darn hilarious.

Oh my gosh - this was right up our alley. We had a grand laugh at the adventures of Inspector Flytrap. The names of the characters are hilarious and the kids are still talking about it.
